Just sent friend requests to you two as well, I'm Joshua Harley :)

Not sure that chat thing has ever worked properly tbh, last time I tried it nobody else was using it, seems best to just stick to the forums :p

I use the voice chat.

In the sound settings I have voice chat and spotter through USB headset and game sounds through speakers.

You can use the drop down menu next to each sound option to select the required output and input.

Accepted you mate.

Shame about the chat as I thought it might be handy in between races, oh well

I didn't even know you could chat outside of the game.

There is a option in bottom right hand corner of website that says "enable Chat", I presumed that was a text based chat as it is right next to your friends list.

Think im going to buy some more cars and tracks today, just gotta work out which ones now :eek::eek:

Yeah, the chat used to be a seperate page, and that kinda worked but was also terrible, then they updated the website and I've never got it working, not that I've spent more than 30 seconds trying...

What have you got now and what type of cars/tracks do you like?

well I decided against a race after a few practice sessions. first because I was really tired, second my mate dragged me onto playing rust (had a blast tbf!!)

but yea doing the speedway in prac.... wow xD I mean... I was getting some good runs of clean laps.... but then I get a bit too confident and then bottle it :p had a few people in the prac session and at least one was having as much difficulty as me haha :p

time wasn't toooo bad. just find it's so easy to run wide if you push it just that little bit :\ was entertaining though, one guy was doing a drift each corner :p then one guy was doing laps in reverse... so I followed him normally.... then did reverse too...we did a few laps at each others side going in reverse...went quite well xD pretty odd feeling though :p

think another prac session when I get home tonight and then mayyybbbeeee attempt a race at this. just need to get my braking and turn in point sorted.

ohhh I had a prac on the mazda cup too. well.... it went a lot better that previously... maybe different track is helping haha. my lap times were terrible though I think :( breaking points and turn ins again. some corners I was taking too fast... then others I was breaking far too early/too much :p

I only have the basic ones at the moment. And tbh I like both oval and road.

I am have signed up for Radical Racing league and plan to race in the truck series so I guess I should buy all the tracks to go with this and the truck. But this little lot will set me back £60:eek::eek::eek:

Then there is the Pitlanes League which looks good but that has different tracks so would be more expense.

And all of the above is not even looking at the road leagues/series.

But thinking about It I should really look at what series I want to race and just build up from there as the leagues only run once per week so seems a lot of cash for not much content really.

What do you guys recommend?

On the oval side the big three series are (or used to be, not entirely sure where the super late model fits in now) the Late Model, Trucks and Nationwides really, the Cup cars have limited participation, Silver Crown/Sprint Cup have 'none', and the SK/Tour Mods lag behind a bit although personally I find them some of the best oval cars to drive.

The Late Model is primarily short tracks, which are awesome imo, and also it's D-Class so you're ready to race it now.

Trucks you can race if you get your SR to 4.0, bypassing the D-class series entirely, mostly larger tracks which are mostly dull, imo :p

Nationwides you won't be able to race outside leagues yet, but if you got the late model and got to C 4.0 you'd be able to do them, skipping the trucks, etc etc.

Trucks and Nationwides to generally share a fair few tracks though, Late Model not so much.

Track wise unless you have a huge preference just go for what's needed for the series. Maybe worth noting as well that if you buy 3 or more bits of content you get 10% off, 6 or more gets 20% off (iirc)

On the road side, for D-Class it's hard not to recommend the Skip Barber series :D

Yeah, short tracks are all about getting the braking points and line right, especially with the slower cars you just need to be as smooth as possible to keep the speed up and make sure you accelerate out of the corners properly.

If I remember correctly the fixed street stock setup is fairly 'tight' (read understeer-y in english :p), if so it's even more important to not overdrive the entrance of the corner. If you can set the car up to slide then you've got more scope for driving it hard into the corner and balancing the slide through/out to get the drive, but that for me at least always requires lots of setup tweaking.

yeah I've seen my mate has set ups for different tracks... I've not fiddled with any of that yet as I'd just break everything xD what I was trying was a bit of a tab on the brakes when just about to pass the trafficlight by the corner, then just coast the engine as I'm turning in and down shift to third, almost at the apex back on the throttle to hold speed about 75mph and then about 2/3 the way round floor it to the outer wall xD was working most of the time, just sometimes i would mess the timing up and cause me to spin :p

What are the nationwides?

I think Im going to get Taladega and Daytona so I can race in the Carburetor Cup as well as a Gen6 car, ford or chevi??????

That will keep me busy along with Street stock and Legends Cup for now on ovals.

Then the Skip Barber for road and buy a couple of the tracks for now and see how it goes.

I do like the look of the touring cars though as well......omg this is going to cost me a fortune!

I won't say how much I've spent over the years

Nationwides are the B-Class NASCAR Oval cars, the iRacing version of the Nascar Nationwide Series, hence the name, can't remember what they're actually called in iRacing though :p

Both Gen6's (and nationwides) are the same, so just whether you have a preference of chevy vs ford, only difference is you can't share, or be shared, a setup from a chevy if you're driving a ford, but if you get the sto file and put it in the right directory it still works.

Not sure I'd advise dega/tona though, got a bit of hatred for them myself but it's just so much different from any other oval racing, especially in the unofficial races...

I reckon I've spent well over $600 on iRacing in the last 2 years. Not a penny of that has been on oval racing, I don't even own all the road cars yet either.

But if you want the best, then it's going to cost a premium price.

My sub is paid up until the end of 2015, so it's not going to cost me anymore money over then next 2 years, other than the odd road track or car.

Wow that's a lot of coin :)

I wish it was possible to test car and track combinations before you buy!

I'm so torn as to what to buy now :-/

It's not the tracks that are the problem, not being able to test the cars is though.

If I could get a refund on quite a few of the cars is bought, then I would.

Mainly because I'll never be good enough to drive them well.

Yeah thats what Im worried about, what cars do you find you struggle in?

Best road cars at this moment in time

RUF - 4 cars for price of one, most popular road car at moment and easiest and most natural to drive

Skip Barber - I do t enjoy it but it's very popular like the RUF and has been a popular series for pretty much forever

Radical, Ford GT and C6r are good as well and the KIA is good if you like god awful FWD cars which love to understeer.

Worst road cars

Williams FW31 - better than it used to be but still miles off the standard it needs to be at

Star Mazda - worst state the car has ever been in, stay well clear for now
