Try lapping slowly to start, then gradually build your pace one corner at a time.

It's difficult to do, I know, because I seem to only be able to go flat out or crash.

Yeah thanks I will.

TBH Im one of them people that brake as late as possible thinking it will make my lap times better even though I know that its not corner entry that makes a fast lap its the corner exit!

Jackie Stewart always says slow in and fast out.

He also says not to put your foot down on the loud pedal until you know you won't have to lift it off again.

The slow in fast out approach is especially important if you have a long straight after you've exited the corner.

Yeah man, good advice. The thing that frustrates me is that I actually know all of this but find it difficult to put into practice

Well I have not been sim racing for long so I guess I will get better with age :D

I know your frustration, I still get it now and I've been sim racing on PC for about 12 years now. I've spent more time in the last year racing than at any other time, but it doesn't come easy to me at all.

All you can do is put in the laps.

FOV seems to be a big factor too, ive not found a FOV which helps me yet, it either feels too close or too far away, but a closer FOV last night did improve my lap time by half a second so not bad, just cant race like that on a single 22" monitor.

I can lap Suzuka at 2.07 most of the time, still cant get it lower lol - first corner and 130R and the final chicane are my weak points, everywhere else im green for the most part, with an optimal of 2.05.993 apparently lol.

And as for my T500RS making a knocking sound, took it apart last night, and by god the amount of belt debris inside there is shocking lol, everything is covered in bits of rubber, air compressor came to the rescue blowing it all clean, and quite a few rolled up peices flew out, must have been that making it notchy and knocking the belt.
Did notice the belt attached to the motor is quite slack compared to the one going around the shaft, so will email thrustmaster see if there is a way of adjusting the motor to get tension back.

some wise words!

I'm not expecting anything spectacular myself, as you said... just put in the laps :D and hope someone else screws up ;) (in races anyway haha)

might try an actual road race tonight on oky short. was rather happy with my TTs over the weekend. think an hours prac when I get in... or how ever long till the next race. just take it nice and sloowww. think I got a 1.05.5 on my qualifying I did....so should be towards the back of the pack... which is nice :)

also Lee ( I think, can't remember last name sorry xD) from the race on thurs said he's gunna teach me the mx-5 tonight.... so watch this space ;) soon be too pr0! ....lol :p

Brilliant, once you are pro can you teach me :D

Oh lord, lol i finally hit Suzuka square on the head last night, a mid 2.06 with an optimal for 2.05:437, god only knows what clicked - figured id jump on and see if i can improve it and i totally forgot the track changes on a Tuesday heheh..so...Zolder, not a track i owned before till now, first impressions : dear god those chicanes are going to send me grey, only done a few laps not really hit it in anger yet but its quite flowy, i like it.

Nice job on Suzuka, I would kill for times like that

I dont own Zolder either and have put off buying it after running Suzuka (it kinda took the wind out of my sails tbh )

I think my improvement was a combination of a lot of things, i tilted my pedals so they felt more natural, changed the FOV ingame so its closer, brake bias to around 61% for me personally, lowered the FFB ever so slightly oh and watched replays of guys doing 2.04's for quite a while. While my lines were almost identical my braking points were too far back is the one thing i noticed, also trying to carry too much speed in the middle of the corners, they were a lot slower in and around the corner, feathering out and miles faster out. Also the C Spec doesnt like to turn in, drifts out a lot. Shift around 8200 too.

I do find with my pedals the lack of feeling in the brake does lead to inconsistent breaking.

What is your brake level setting to in the options, I think mine is at 1.6

Mine is the same as that, tried higher but i kept locking up, lower was worse so stuck to the default, im using a T500RS, and i agree the lack of feel in all brake pedal sets (owned G25&G27) apart from the really expensive sets is annoying and is more than likely the cause - ideally i would love a load cell for mine. Any mods for your pedals knocking about the web?

There are a few mods for the DFGT but they are not great tbh, I will be ordering the T500RS at the end of the month so Im hoping it will be a improvement :D

I have not looked at mods for the pedals on the T500RS but I presume there are some?

Oh it will be an improvement in terms of the wheel FFB and the pedals generally, but the brake pedal still has the same issue - there are some mods for the T500's pedals, 1 it comes with a 'realistic brake mod', basically a metal plate with a rubber and spring, it sort of makes it feel better but its still the same as the others really - Basherbrake mod, from basherboards, is basically similar, apart from it uses 2 or 1 skateboard bushings behind the pedal, giving it a load cell type feel, people prefer this over the included one, quite cheap too, then theres the load cell mod by bodin solutions, but thats been out of stock for ages now, not sure whats happening with it - also Thrustmaster apparently are in the stages of making their own version, but details have been scarse for a year or so now with no real offical word from Thrustmaster that ive found - so a few yea, but overall an improvement on the DFGT id say (not used one)

Cool, I cant wait to get it TBH. I know it wont improve my times as that is still down to me but I think it might give me a pshycological boost :D:D

The pedals will be the biggest improvement compared to the DFGT, as well as much stronger and detailed FFB.

Did you find out if you can order it with the 458 rim included?

I did have a look around and could not find one mate, looks like I might have to order the stock version and upgrade the rim :confused:
