There are 3 rims available.

The original Gran Turismo rim, the Ferrari F1 rim and the Ferrari 458 rim.

Of the three the 458 seems to be the best of both worlds. Paddles that move with the wheel that are of a decent size and quality.

The paddles on the F1 wheel are a just rocker switch, and you can accidentally change up by catching the downshift in the opposite direction of travel.

The original static paddles are good but mine suffers from poor quality switches, that means that sometmes you can get two up shifts instead of one.

Whether the have upgraded the switches in newer versions, I don't know, but it's worth checking.

458 GTE wheel, and then remove the static shift paddles as they are annoying as heck.

Edit - Cuffy, you will like Zolder, its quite easy to drive apart from the chicanes they are tricky, but im down to a 1.34:090 already with plenty of room for improvement, its those chicanes im losing out on.

I'm not expecting anything spectacular myself, as you said... just put in the laps :D and hope someone else screws up ;) (in races anyway haha)

might try an actual road race tonight on oky short. was rather happy with my TTs over the weekend. think an hours prac when I get in... or how ever long till the next race. just take it nice and sloowww. think I got a 1.05.5 on my qualifying I did....so should be towards the back of the pack... which is nice :)

also Lee ( I think, can't remember last name sorry xD) from the race on thurs said he's gunna teach me the mx-5 tonight.... so watch this space ;) soon be too pr0! ....lol :p

Hi mate I was on for a bit last night. Didnt see you on. I will be racing again tomorrow hit me up on the evening.

PS thanks very much to who ever put on last weeks race. Hope to do it again theres loads a new people here now so running the MX5 in a nice friendly racing environment will be great for the news guys.

This time I promise not to drive off the track when leading and half a second a a lap faster than the rest of the field. Next time Craig :D
 
Really enjoying interlagos in the Ruf so far. Not an easy track but an incredibly fun one to drive.

Only two more weeks and fanatec are saying I should finally get my Clubsport SQ shifter, can't wait!

Switches can be upgraded. John Bodin sells them through basherboards Iirc. I remember reading it on gt planet last year.

I have the skateboard bushings too. They do increase resistance but don't give a progressive feel like a load cell. ISR did a video review on them.

Edit I also remember reading that there was supposed to be a load cell add on for the pedals made by thrust master however there has been no official statement so the images online may be fake.

After an hour or so's practice earlier my fastest lap in skip barber at spa was 3.02.6

Couple of laps and I just knocked out a 2.57.09

Yep, reckon it's helped :D Think I need to play around with the brake settings but with the pedal requiring more force I find it easier to gauge.
 
I'll be out from Friday for just over two weeks.

Might be a good thing based on my last race. Too many idiots who lunge down the inside from miles behind, who somehow think you'll just go straight on and not turn into the corner at all.

A typed apology just doesn't cut it when it's completely avoidable.
 
I don't mind being overtaken at all. If it's done right, with skill and good judgement, then you can leave a cars width. But when they do it from miles behind, at corners that professionals don't overtake at, then you don't have the time or the skill to make room or avoid them.

I should be about tonight I think. got a few things to do after work but think my evening is pretty clear :)

Anyone else racing in the GT3 think that the level of driver skill has gone down, compared with the Grand Am series? Which actually required a lower licence for entry.

I managed to race last night and made it to the finish this time, but someone else was raging the same way I was the night before. Same problem, idiots trying banzai overtaking moves, that they have no hope of pulling off.

Part of the problem is that licences are too easy to achieve and you can get very inexperienced drivers in cars they can't really drive. Or even drivers that have done very little racing at all and gained their licence from time trials.

haven't actually played much at all this week...been too busy watching films and youtubesssss :p

though I'll probably be on over the weekend... or at least I'm planning to :)

was watching my mate in the GT3 on ummmm something summit something track? can't remember the name but it was mad! first thought it was a hill climb but then there's a really twisty downhill section leading onto a giant straight. was pretty fun to watch as he's pretty good but yet he was hitting the walls a lot trying to figure out the lines xD I think he only did about 4-5 actual clean laps in the like 30 mins xD (may have been more but seemed like every lap he ran a little wide or a bit too fast)

great looking track though.... might buy it :D

I am still only a C license so cant race the GT3 yet, however I am still not even racing in C class races as I dont feel Im good enough with the cars.

I managed to get to C class due to time trials and TBH, I dont think I should be C class yet. I'm sure a lot of people are not like me though and just jump into the races before they are ready which is what is causing the problem :eek:
 
I can't really comment on the GT3 races, only done a handful, most of which went badly but purely down to me not others (and I didn't take anyone else out :p)

I think it's made a bit worse by being such a popular series, in a less popular series like the Radical you get to know the other drivers, you're held more accountable, and of course there's a bigger gap in the skill levels in the race. With the GT3 having multiple splits the skill level in one split is quite tightly packed, it's a lot harder to pass someone that is only just slower than you than it is to pass someone that's a second a lap slower, and if the overtaker is dumb enough you get the divebomb fun...

I do agree the licence levels are too easy to get, they used to be a bit harder in that you only got promoted at the end of the season rather than 'fast track' promotions, but even then the criteria was too easy. Realistically I shouldn't be A class, I'm not consistent enough, but I am and maintain it pretty easily (did drop to B once, got back up without trying though).

But it's commercial, people want to join and race the top level cars, they want to think they're 'good', so it's made far easier than it arguably should be, but that's not going to change.
