Iran protests after death of mahsa amini

It's actually quite hard to think of a successful revolution where the revolutionaries weren't MORE brutal than the oppressors.... there might be one, but I'm struggling.

One of the unfortunate realities seems to be that you need to almost lower yourself below the oppressors level and really sink into darkness before you can come out the other side - eg English Civil War, French Revolution, Russian Revolution etc etc - even the Iranian Revolution was originally happy liberal students that was taken over by brutal islamic nutters.....

Which is unfortunate as the Iranian protesters all seem very decent and reasonable....as that won't help their chances of success....

^ Hopefully it's the beginning of the end for the regime. The uprising will fail if it's not backed by the security forces.

Agreed this is a big deal now that some security services are changing sides. I do hope a regime change brings in a more moderate view but it's still going to be a very strict country in terms of western values.

Which is a shame as it was quite a liberal and progressive place.

They'll likely go back to how things were before the regime took power, so a place that's actually open and free for people to live as they wish.

Not likely Jack Straw did a very good book on Iran, its set up on total mistrust between each group of powerful faction, Police, Army, Security, Clergy and the elite military unit. All somehow held together by the Man in the middle.

Civil war is more likely the outcome :(

Iran was and is a reasonably secular place not dissimilar to Britain in many respects so it was never going to accept the Mullahs BS forever.

Can't see this dying down, not with the amount of innocent people they are killing now, people are coming out more and more to protest.

Unfortunately like Syria I can't see the regime losing power in any way shape or form, they will go down fighting to the end.

It seems an organisation in Iran is poisoning school girls and the authorities are either complicit or just don't care

Called it.

This is gonna get a whole lot worse before it gets any better, and I don't anticipate victory for those demanding reform.
The retribution will be even greater. Don't fool yourself, we're not witnessing a revolution here. The protesters cannot win.

I know it's mostly just apathy and fear that stops Iranians getting rid of this deeply unpopular rebellion that has succeeded in only pushing people away from their extremist views, but I wonder... it serves the a lot of other countries interest that Iran remain in this turgid, sad state so have they been secretly helping the regime smother dissent?
