Iron Maiden New album title and track listing announced

I bought myself 2 copies today and on first listen (was tired, just finished a round of Golf) I nearly fell asleep! There were though a few tracks that immediately stand out. These for me were Breeg (surprisingly), For The Greater Good of God, The Longest Day and The Legacy. The latter being my favorite.

On the 2nd and 3rd listens though it appears there are no poor songs on this album. I really like it and I think it will get better each time I hear it. This was the same with Somewhere In Time, I didn't think much of that the first time I heard it.

You need to give it time. The more I listen to it the better it gets. Whats refreshing is there aren't any fillers. Does anyone think this is an xfactor with bruce on it. There was one song cant remeber which and I thought Blaze

I've listened to a few tracks from it on the Planet Rock radio and enjoyed them so I've ordered the version with the DVD, should arrive by the end of the week.

Oooh, another Planet Rock radio listener.
It helps me get through my day at work.

I was blasting the new Iron Maiden album out through a 5k rig on friday night and its the best album I've heard since Powerslave.

Agreed, picked it up yesterday - Its absolutely brilliant... so undeniably Maiden but somehow a little different.

Cant wait till Earl's Court :)

I listen to them all the time now, especially with Alice Cooper on the morning show. Was mainly due to listening to Rick Wakeman's Saturday show and the daft jokes he tells that got me into the station. :)

It's definitely a grower and I like every track on the album now. If I had to choose a worst track though, right now I'd have to say it was The Pilgrim.

got it yesterday, at first i was a little bleh, but i listened to it a second time, and it really got to me.

Definitely a grower, and IMO, their best to date. roll on bruce air :D

Agreed, absolutely superb album. As I say, I still prefer Brave New World, but this album is so accomplished, it evolves without losing that Maiden magic. Brilliant.

I'm really liking this new album and I haven't really been a fan of Maidens work for quite a few years now, In fact I stopped buying them after Seventh son of a Seventh Son.

Can't stop listening to this one! :)

I triedto listen to it but then started playing games :(

Burnout sound effects > CD Player :(

I'll have another listen later (hopefully :p)

Where's the energy?

I feel i need to express my feelings about Iron Maidens new album.

First, a bit of background.

Iron Maiden have been my favourite band since i started listening to music for pleasure aged about 14. This was about the time Seventh Son of a Seventh Son was released. Iron Maiden continue to be my favourite band today, some 17 years later. They are still by far the most played band in my mp3 collection.

After listening to Maiden's latest offering, i was left asking myself a question. Where's the energy? This album is the the same old rubbish, song after song. Plodding intro (normally clean guitar or bass) followed by some mid-tempo plodding rhythm guitar with Bruce wailing his little heart out. They all sound the same. Ok, so Smith churns out some perfectly composed solos (as usual), but other than that, the album's boring as hell. All the songs sound the same.
To get it out of my head, I put on Number of the Beast. N.o.t.B, is not my favourite Maiden album. It comes 4th or 5th on my list, but the second Invaders started, i just thought "Wow". It has everything this album lacks. Energy, passion, variety, songs less than 4 minutes long, everything.

Of the recent Maiden albums Dance of Death leaves this for dead. Brave new world has too many epic songs on it for my liking, and this one's too dull.

I'm almost glad i was unable to get tickets to see them in December, as by now i'd be dreading the though of having to stand through all this rubbish just to hear the classics. Roll on the History of Iron Maiden, Part II.

There is something weird about the sound on this album, it's really badly mixed and mastered. Maiden was always much better live than on albums, but this album has very monotonic sound to it and lacks proper maidenish superproduction or even characteristic sound separation (solos across channels, drums panned out left and right, sound effects in background etc). There are moments where Bruce sings quietly or whispers and there is very distinctive lack of harmonics between him and a band. There are three guitarists in the band and yet you mostly hear one guitar sound overdubbed multiple times. One and the same vocal level throughout. In fact it almost sounds like pre-release demo recorded live in a rehersal room.

That is because the album hasn't really meen mixed and mastered at all. Just a touch in places. They wanted to release it the way it sounded in the studio. Really sort of stripped back and bare production wise.

I think I said this already in this thread.

Youch. So they listened to Metallica's St.Anger, with the pot lid snare and swedish pine detuned guitar set and thought - we can make this thing sound even more amatourish - we can make it sound like bangers and mash.
Or was it just a case of "keep it real, yo" frenzy that went overboard?

From what I remember, the bassist (whos name has, rather embarssingly just escaped me...is it Steve something? ****. Anyway...) recokned that it sounded pretty awesome "raw" and thus managed to convince the band to keep it that way.

Well I like the album overall. But, I agree the production is still shockingly bad. Quite why a band of this stature but up with poor production is a bit bemusing. For me listening to something like Powerslave 1/2 the enjoyment comes from listening to the clean drums, cymbals, bass, and guitars. I just dont think Kevin Shirley is up to the job.

Some of it is the bans fault Steve Harris has said that he wants a live studio sound

I still like it though, and cant wait for the tour.

Well, the album is definitely a grower - particularly like the first three tracks. I agree with the comments above that the sound quality is not that good. Still prefer the sound quality of the Powerslave/Piece of Mind era.

I am the only one who thinks the "Pilgrim" is a rip-off of "Lord of the Flies" ?
