Is 8GB RAM really necessary or...?

not sure about games but right now chrome uses half a gig and i have 5 tabs open so imagine a normal scenario for me.

20+ tabs open on chrome + battlefield + iplayer + media monkey + teamspeak + outlook + League of Legends + steam + origin + msn + skype + irc + w/e else i have open

Why close it if you don't have to!

I find it hard to hit my RAM limit - and that's with 8GB. I've seen it hit about 6.8 when using Premiere Pro, and I'd imagine some of the larger PS files I play with would max it out... That said, if I bought a new PC tomorrow I'd probably buy 16GB. Just because I could...

I have 8 myself and I've never been limited since. I game, render, etc. Will get 16 before the year is out though for sure.
