is £90 good for 3 new tires and tracking?

basically i've noticed on the 2 front wheels an uneven tire wear, the outside part of the offside tire is getting worn and the inside part of the drivers side is getting worn, so my mate says it could be the tracking, so i take it to budget tires and they say that the tracking is off. now i need 3 tires because the 2 front ones are illeagle (no tread on the outside) and i have no spare as that was put on the rear offside when it got punctured. so i asked the guy how much would it cost for 3 new 155/70 tires, fitted and tracking sorted. he says £90, is that a good price?

Thats not a bad price, but for £90 they must be very budget tyres and personally, i'd want something that I knew would stick me to the road.

Arrowspeed?

If your going to scrimp on tyres, stick a budget on as a spare and go for decent tyres for the fronts. They are a small size so decent brand rubber isn't going to brake the bank.

yup thats the one, the thing about tyres for me is, im not the boy racer type, i dont have a fast car (nissan micra), i use it to drop my mum off at work, go to college, pick mum up from work, do general errands, go out and see friends etc. i dont throw the car about. so i think this is a fair option for getting tyres, but then again im no expert!

You never know when you might round a corner doing the speed limit only to find an obstruction directly in your path. Doesn't matter if you've got an Impreza Turbo or a 3 cylinder Corsa, you'll want to stop as soon as you possibly can and when braking from 60mph, the difference between good and bad tyres can often be more than *5 car lengths*.

That could be the difference between an accident or just a harsh stop.

i went to a tyre dealership and asked the guy how much it would cost for 2 155/70 tyres and he said £42.50 for 2 tyres, and he said they were yokohama, is that a fair price?

Exactly what Fox says.

The problem with your sort of car (mines the same) is that its got small wheels with skinny tyres and CD sized brakes. Stick cheep rubber into the equation and you've got even more issues.

On the positive side its not going to cost the earth to get decent rubber for that size :)

Also you may find yourself in the same situation as me where my Goodyear GT2's (nothing special but a good cheapish tyre) work out better value than the budget "Jupiter's" that were on it because they are lasting much longer.

EDIT: For comparison my 165/70 R13 Goodyear GT2's cost me £62 for two all in.

Please get all 4 replaced, especially if they are different makes/tread patterns!

thing is, the back 2 are great, there is still a very deep tread on them both, and one of the back ones was changed only a few months ago (puncture)

edit - and really im only replacing 2 tyres, one of the 3 will be going in the boot as the spare ;)

Sorry, my mis-understanding.

But if you should need to use it on the rear, dont use it as a perm replacement :)

so would i be better going for the yokohama's?

Yes, never skimp on skinny tyres, you dont have a lot of grip, so quality matters!

Well, on further inspection...

It is also a legal requirement to ensure that tyres of different construction types are not fitted to opposite sides of the same axle. The two main tyre types are radial and cross-ply, and these must not be mixed on the same axle.

Mixing brands and patterns of the same construction type is permissible depending on the vehicle type and manufacturers recommendation. Check your vehicles handbook for tyre fitment details and options.

So different makes can be fitted, but i sure as hell want the same level of grip from both tyres on each axle!!

well at least both the front ones will be the same :p

but i know the back ones are of different tread patterns.

whats the difference between radial and cross-ply? perhaps a crude drawing in microsoft paint to illustrate :p

you would want even performance on both ideally.

went for a some tyres for my m3 alloys today - 2x 225/45/17zr and 2x 235/45/17zr
best quote was £360 and that was for average make!
damn tyre costs :/

How about 246 all round for Falkens?

Or 274 for slightly higher spec Falkens....
