I'm at a PC for probably about 10 hours a day including work. As title suggests is a gaming mouse like the G400 overkill for day/day use and only very occasional gaming? I had been using a mini mouse with work laptop but it hurts your hands when using for long periods. Any suggestions?
Is a G400 mouse overkill for normal use?

A good value gaming mouse like the G400 is a great idea if you are looking for a more comfortable mouse for work. Not only are these mice designed for excellent responsiveness, but also for comfort - since gamers tend to manhandle the things for hours on end.
Personally I find the MX shape used by Logitech mice like the G400 to be very comfortable and I use my MX1100 mouse extensively for both work and games and it does great for both without hurting my hands.

Should've gone with the G500 + BoogieBug XL deal that OCUK have going on, tenner more and a free, and awesome mousemat. It's what I'm going to do.
