is a IPS screen worth it for gaming??

I've had many IPS screens (inc the HP 24") as well as a few TN and a few *VA screens.

I'm an FPS gamer (because when you're born to play FPS all you can do is play FPS!) and have only found the Dell 24" VA screens to have unbearable input lag. the rest are all neck and neck for performance.

I migrated from Mitubishi Diamondtron and LG Flatron CRTs for refeerence when I got my first step into LCDs.

Thanks for that! It would be nice if more notebooks used 8 bit panels as I believe the vast majority still use 6 bit TN panels.

Not sure but my clevo laptop might be an 8bit TN panel (I can't see any dithering with my normal desktop background and its a good one for showing it - very noticeable on most 6bit TN panels), unfortunatly tho viewing angles are pretty naff and contrast ratio lacking (average by laptop standards but pathetic by desktop TFT standards).

Could you forward me your desktop background? I have a number of panels I'd like to test it on and then I can confirm whether it is a good background to test this theory :p

Kind of like my Dell Studio then, washed out colours, but very bright, I expect?

Yeah pretty much. Tho weirdly it seems to be getting better with use - not sure if thats just me getting used to it or if its really improved with a bit of "burn in" heh.
