Is airport parking just obscenely expensive now?

For a recent business trip where I was away for 3 weeks, I looked up a quote to park at birmingham airport and the cheapest I could see was about 350 quid. Quickly booked a cab instead, and assumed maybe it was a one off that is was so expensive.

Have a holiday booked next week for 5 nights, looking at parking at Bristol airport and the cheapest I can see is 77 quid, that's with a 10 minute transfer bus so not exactly by the door.

Also looking at flights to Edinburgh, and to park for 2 days at birmingham airport the cheapest I can find is 55 quid. For 2 days!

Am I out of touch or are these prices just mental? These are all from checking across several websites.

If anyone knows any lesser known more affordable places near either BHX or BRS that would be helpful.

It is almost like they are incentivising you not to park your immobile/large/battery likely to run out car at an airport for 3 weeks.

Get someone to give you a lift so you don't have to?

Would never leave my car in an airport car park....

Even getting a taxi there and back must be cheaper than 3 weeks of car parking fees, and a dented and scratched car when you get back

I paid £132 for 3 days in Heathrow long stay in August, I thought it was just a summer holiday thing! I expect roughly about £10 per day charge in the past pre-pandemic but that was ridiculous.

Someone will be along in a minute telling you how great it is you can pay double those rates to park closer to the terminal, and £5 extra for a 'fast track' entry.

People love getting ripped off here.

Even the petrol station a few minutes walk from East Midlands stopped people using them as a drop off/pick up point now as get fined. It should only be used for a petrol station.

Stories of people getting speeding and jumping red lights tickets during their time abroad. Takes ages to prove you weren’t in the car.

A friend’s brother parked in a car park by an airport and wondered why his car has an extra 80 miles on the clock.

Doesn't surprise me with the types I've seen working in those car parks. A little late-night stint in a nice motor won't do any harm

You can always get topcashback on airport parking. Edinburgh is usually 10% but seen others being more.

I think it’s just standard budget airline style pricing and the pricing goes up closer you get. I booked a week in Edinburgh for around £50, but booked 2 months in advance.

I use the offsite places where you keep your keys and never had an issue.

Parking is expensive.
Parking for 6 hours in the shopping centre in Birmingham is £15, over 8 hours is £25
This.

Parking is ridiculous regardless of where you go. I haven't noticed a spike in airport parking recently but it's been getting progressively worse over the years. Just try to find something off-site that has a transfer bus.

I think parking is just really expensive... Last time I flew from Manchester for a 5 days it was a similar price to what you were quoted for Bristol, and that was one where you had to get a 10 min bus ride too.

Is really annoying... I guess for a week of less it's still worth paying for parking, for more than that it's probably cheaper getting an airport taxi. I hate having to rely on a taxi turning up though.

Then the airport tells you to consider public transport LOL. Like yeah I might if it wouldn't involve about three changes, four times the travel time, and having to wait overnight because the first / last option arrives after I leave / before the flight back arrives. It's also not actually cheaper if there are two or more of you.

We live half hour from Stansted and once it got to parity with just getting a cab we stopped using the parking. It was almost reasonable if you booked in advance and maybe used cashback sites. Now its a just a rob.

Oh yeah, also charging £8 to drop someone off/pick them up.....

I enjoyed it far too much when a guy lost his **** at the airport because he wasn't allowed to take his carry on into the cabin because he was late and it was full. He had paid for "speedy boarding" and some other extra so he felt entitled. Was extra funny watching speedy boarding being called and 70% of the entire plane getting up to queue. Speedy indeed.

I don't get it. You book a seat. Getting on first or last makes little difference.

If you book well in advance it can be 'ok' but it depends on the airport.

What just about everywhere did after people starting travelling again was pretty much double a the drop off charges.

I live 2hours, 15mins drive from Heathrow, that is if i drive at 3am with no traffic. In day time it takes at least 3 hours.

I've taken the train to the airport, last time I thought that was wise, on the return leg, forgot the exact reason, I had to pay more to amend my ticket to get home. I ended up paying like £130 in total for train tickets, and it took me like 5hrs. Not to mention i prefer to get early flights, before 9am flights if possible. There are no trains or bus leaving at 3am.

I've also used taxi to and from the airport, it's not worth it for 1 person, and there was one taxi driver that i can tell he was falling asleep at the wheel, i had to keep him talking all the way home.

Parking is expensive, but the alternative for me is problematic.

Oh, before "try going to an airport closer". There are just more flights to places that i usually go to.

Priority boarding is only useful when the flight is full and you have hand luggage, like valuable hand luggage. Like £15k in camera gear...ask me how I know and how nervous I was it is to check that into the hold!

Like you said, if the cabin is full you need to check that case, if you are first on the plane then you would have space.
