Is airport parking just obscenely expensive now?

With drop off fees being high as well, they might not be so happy to do so!

Take the train or bus.
Would love to take a train or bus but it's either a 50 minute drive or 2 hours 30 on public transport.

For the Edinburgh trip it's likely to be a semi regular thing and a 06:45 flight so a lift from friend/family or public transport just not feasible. Also I know hotel at the airport the night before can be an option, but don't want to regularly do an extra night away from home, and that's added cost too.

Yep it's really expensive. I had a few holidays this year and went with an Uber each time after seeing the crazy prices for airport parking

Cardiff Airport wants £48 for about 26 hours parking. The bus service is rubbish- takes longer to cardiff than flying to Edinburgh!

I paid £72 for five days in Bristol a couple of weeks ago.

Priority boarding is only useful when the flight is full and you have hand luggage, like valuable hand luggage. Like £15k in camera gear...ask me how I know and how nervous I was it is to check that into the hold!

Like you said, if the cabin is full you need to check that case, if you are first on the plane then you would have space.

Its becoming like Disneyland now. They will have to invent another tier of boarding like "super speedy boarding" so you can beat the regular speedy boarders.

Normally I am the last to get on that plane, I just sit there chilling until everyone has got on.

But if the flight is clearly very full, by looking at the number of people at the gate, then I would start queuing towards the end, and not be the last one on. Obviously if you are flying anything but economy then this is not a problem.

it’s great being last on and watching the face of the crestfallen passenger who thinks they are getting a spare seat.
On the flip side, being last on gives you the opportunity to easily move seat to get extra room if there are spare seats.

They charge £lol because people seem to be willing to pay it. I guess if its business travel then you just expense it. For us its easier and cheaper to use a local firm for the airport runs when we go away. £150 round trip to Manchester airport for 4 of us earlier this year.

As for "use public transport", get chuffing real .... A load of suitcases, waiting around forever, hoiking cases up and down stairs to change platforms, changing trains 3 times and then a 15 minute walk from the station to home carrying all that. Stuff that !

Airports are just hell holes.

Minimum wage folk looking to make their job bearable?

By taking a vehicle without consent or knowledge of the owner?
If I employ someone to drive my car from point A to point B then back again at a later time then that is the expectation & limit of consent to using my vehicle. Using it for any extra purpose or distance is unauthorised and considered theft of the vehicle. Pretty sure the business insurance would not cover them either.

Meet and greet parking means they have to use your car. Did you think they use a low loader? Did you think in meet and greet parking they'll park it right next to the airport where they can sell those spaces for triple/quadruple?:confused::confused::confused:

At Manchester Airport, it's got so bad they are dropping folk off on the M60 slip roads ! ! Coppers are having a ruddy field day

You clearly didn't read what I wrote, from what I understand not uncommon for you.

If I pay a M&G company to take my car from the airport to their parking facility & then back again to return my car to me then that is the maximum extent for my consent in using my vehicle under the contract between myself and the company.

Going for a joyride, which is what you suggested is merely "making their job bearable" exceeds that consent therefore is taking the vehicle without consent. It's also extremely likely that their business insurance doesn't cover them for usage outside of said contract.

Define joy ride. You seem to think it is adding tonnes of miles on? Weird fetish.

Looked up cost of airport parking.
Nope.

I now get a taxi/dropped off at Cardiff.
Then national express to airport and back.

Only cost me 35 pounds return from Cardiff to Gatwick
And 11 pounds return to Bristol

The issue I've found is the drop off costs. There's no ability to drop down the road and walk the final bit, so if you do get a drop off and pick up from a friend, it's about £10 just for that, and then fuel etc.

I have used parking service before where you drive to the airport, they take your car and go outside of the area to park it cheaper, and then meet you again at airport when you're back.

Was reasonably priced but was only for a week. Any longer and I'd taxi/train/get a friend.

In this situation, using the vehicle for any purpose outside of the contracted consent. Whatever you want to define 'joyride' as, the fact remains that using the vehicle other than for the purpose of transporting it directly to/from the airport/parking facility is theft, specifically taking without consent, even if it's popping to the shops for snacks.

You seem to like using the word fetish in many of your posts, bit of a weird fetish don't you think?

I'd say probably 2-2.5x vs pre-covidy costs to park :(

Last flight I had planned from Gatwick (I think) it worked out half the price to contact the on-site hotel and book parking with them with no stay :) I ended up having covid so didn't travel so cannot comment how smoothly/not that works but is an option.

I don't even know what point you are making. Are you defining theft now?

Edit: what's with the weird side insults as well? Make you feel good?

I thought about doing that...might have to start looking into this now, even if I need to stay over 1 night prior, it might works out cheaper.
