Is airport parking just obscenely expensive now?

In 2020 I parked at Manchester airport for 26 days/25 nights for £110.67. Same dates and car park in 2023 is £161.00.

A fair increase but not an horrendous amount by airport standards.

Looked up cost of airport parking.
Nope.

I now get a taxi/dropped off at Cardiff.
Then national express to airport and back.

Only cost me 35 pounds return from Cardiff to Gatwick
And 11 pounds return to Bristol

The bus service from Cardiff Airport is rubbish. That means I have to drive, unless I want around 3 hours public transport travel from caerphilky, each way.

I don't mind paying reasonable parking, but close to £50 for one day is ridiculous.

Never flown from Cardiff. Always check. But it seems to go nowhere!

Many employers have discount schemes which are not promoted well. Went onto the app for my employer and checked that can save 20% on APH parking.

Just checked, for 11 days parking next March, £173 at Heathrow.

Not too bad, good even compared to 3 days for £132 back in August. I might need to lock that in this side of Christmas just in case...

I will probably be flying to Edinburgh from there in a week or so.

Hence my rage at paying £50 for one day.

I normally use Bristol. The drive is only about 30 minutes more, and they fly to more destinations. Two weeks ago, five days parking cost me £75 in Bristol.

My mum's friends 3 mins walk from the shuttle bus to Gatwick. Used to fly out a lot when their children lived in Spain (different parts. so different airports) and never had an issue. Even my parents parked on their driveway to use the same bus.

Having Cardiff national express close by saves me so much money. I don't have to drive or pay for parking. And bus stops are right by the terminals.

Where you live is a real hassle getting into Cardiff. Not like you can really get a taxi for that journey

Stansted is expensive, just parked there for three nights, £82 in the mid stay with shuttle bus as that was the cheapest. It wasnt that long ago I remember parking there for 10 days for less than that.. joke tbh. Mind, I did a short break to Palma, Mallorca and I was surprised by a few other things too, RyanAir charge to check in at a desk, if you check in on the app, you pay to choose seats together, Palma, as with a lot of places now have introduced a "tourist tax" per person per night, wtaf !

Last year went to pick one of my daughters up from East Midlands and we got there an hour early.
I looked at the rates to park up and it was a joke so I drove round the airport just parking up side roads and I was chased away from everywhere.
I eventually left the airport, drove 2 miles away and sent my daughter a text with a What3Words to where I could pick her up near to the airport.
She was waiting, I pulled up and 15 seconds she was in the car, one week later I got a £35 fine :(

Car parks are the biggest source of income for airports so the prices are likely to go in one direction only.
Do you have a source for this? Not wanting to disbelieve you but I'd have thought aircraft handling fees and charges to airlines would have been the main income by some margin?

Most of the airlines now try and scam you with online check in/picking your seat. Its like we do their job for them AND they charge us for it.

Yes, prices have gone crazy. It used to be about £70 for a 10 day long stay at Gatwick as little as a few years ago. The same this year in August cost us about £150.
Train risks delays and drop off by private taxi is a rip as well.
Best bet is get a mate to drop you and pay their fuel cost.

I’ve got to spend a week one on one with her, you can be sure I’m not paying the £8.99 to sit next to her on the flight!!! Long live the ‘random’ algorithm putting as at separate ends of the plane…

I hate airports it's the worst part of any holiday you walk into these places looking forwards to your well deserved break and right away airports go out of their way to make you feel miserable and little more then a cash cow that needs to milked for every £ note in your pocket and parking is just a part of it. Everything carries a 50% premium at these places from drinks, food, parking to the additional fees if your luggage is slightly over the limit or a bit too big. Add to that the long lines at security or passport control, dirty toilets, the of lack of seating at the departure gate followed by the rugby scrum as soon as it's boarding time and by the time you get to the end of line some gormless faced airline employee turns around and tells you the flight is full.

I cope with airports by setting myself goals to spend as little money as possible, if I get away with spending £0 (besides the cost of my ticket) I feel like I've beaten the system. I have no shame in going to Stansted airport and getting my Dad to drop us off down one of the service roads and walking for a couple of minutes to screw the airport out of the £8 dropping off fees, I'll make some wraps for me and my partner along with some other snakes to take with us so we don't have the go into one of the cafe's and pay £10 for a bacon sandwich of something similar. If they could I'm sure airports would charge your for the air you breath.

I don't mind smaller airports, I don't even mind Schiphol.

Paris Charles de Gaulle though - I'd literally make my trip longer to avoid that place.
