Is anyone else fed-up every new game being a crafter?

Crafting is ok as long as it leads to something good.

Some games over rely on it.

There isn't many new ideas in gaming at all.

Rather have crafting anyday compared to the other fads we've seen - PVP and battle Royale for example (both game modes that require minimal effort by game developers to create )

I like crafting, its the grind to resource gather that I can't stand which has some ridiculous requirements. In fact any game that is too grindy gets boring very quickly.

You want to build a shelf? You'll need 5 fully grown trees, 100m of rope and a hammer. You need a hammer? You'll need 20 iron ingots, a small forest and a rare mushroom. Iron? Thats in a mine that is infested with spidermoles and will need clearing first. You'll need to smelt that iron ore though so if you want to build a smelter what you need is.... and so on.

I dislike it generally too. Don't mind it in survival horror games like the Forest where it was generally quite simple but it irritates me in most games. If I go old school: KOTOR I had a decent lightsabre and weapon modification mode but KOTOR II added too much junk in there to care about.

Like others have said, I'll skip it in games generally as I don't want to go through the grind that Bickaxe just explained above. Boring. I prefer moving through with some storyline.

I don't mind crafting if it's done well. Sadly too many games try to cram lots of badly tested content into their games, thinking that it's a substitute for fun design.

Two different things really, one is a mechanic within a game mode, the other is an entire mode.

I've always enjoyed the crafting bit of games, usually more than the combat... I used to play a lot of MMO games where you could play as a merchant/crafter and almost never got involved in the combat side of things.

Crafting or "make your own fun" has been on the increase because devs keep releasing open-world games that are empty and devoid of content, they've worked out that they have to put in a lot less effort if they just make the player turn their gaming into a 2nd job.
