I have a raid 0 config with 2 x 320 gig drives, and I wanted to create if possible a mirror using a 1 TB drive, or a partition on it.
Can a raid 0 be converted to raid 1 using the existing raid 0 without losing the data, and adding the extra drive.
I am sorry if this is a daft question, I am not up to speed on raid.

nope you can't

what i'd do..

take a weekly image using acronis true image and store that on the 1tb drive.

It would appear I need the server edition to do that, if I try to restore using Acronis it reboots to do the restore then the raid drivers are not installed so it fails. This is why I was looking into the possibility of creating a mirror drive :(

you don't need server edition

acronis home, bootable cd (full mode -not safe mode) -you get the choice when making the cd

it definatly works.

use newest ati home, think it's 11.8101

i have the P35 DS3R, and it 100% works with it :)

infact our spec is almost exactly the same ;)

besides my ATCS 110 case

Right, I am clearly doing something wrong.
I am using the latest release of Acronis. I booted into WindowsXP and started Acronis and created a full startup CD. Still in WindowsXP I took a complete backup of the raid 0 drive which contains the Vista which worked all OK.
I rebooted into the Acronis startup CD and selected to restore. It asked where the archive was, found it fine, then having looked at it asked me which partition and or mbr to restore, so I chose just the partition, (this was correctly shown as G Vista). It then asked for a destination folder or drive to restore to, but the raid drive was not shown, though all the other drives were.
I have previously assumed that is because the raid drivers were not installed at this time.
Can you spot what I am doing wrong?

i do all mine from the cd

make sure when you make the cd, you tell it to make a 'full version', the safe one has no SATA drivers

also, to make your backup quicker, run ccleaner slim on your pc (removes temp files), and disable system restore (massive files)

I am using the full CD, and it does see all the SATA drives OK, it is the raid 0 it does not see.
Are you using a raid setup?
I can backup WindowsXP and Vista when it is on a single disk, the problem only started when I put Vista on to a raid o config spanning two drives.
I will run the cleaner, but to be honest at this stage there is not much data on Vista.
Thanks for the input
