In my day Disney world was the big thing as a kid...and out of reach for most

Now I don't think it carries the same wow factor for kids these days.

Is Disney The life dream it once was?

Disneyworld Florida - without a doubt - Yes. EuroDisney no.

When you say Disneyworld - I assume you mean the 6 major parks in Florida/associated areas classed as "Disneyworld" and not just the "Magic Kingdom" - which a lot of people think is Disneyworld ;)

For children ( probably under 10 ) - it tops almost any other theme park. It has the rides, the characters they love - the professional staff and organised queues etc. Almost everything my children could have ever wanted from an "Amusement park" was catered for. And to top it off - the weather was great and the food was great. Most importantly they met Lightening McQueen and Mickey Mouse :p Go to any Amusement park in the UK or Spain etc - after going to Disneyworld - and you will see how many things they just can't seem to get right. For my kids anyway - I think it is their ultimate holiday still.

I have been to many theme parks, water parks, amusement places with my kids - and none have had the wow factor that Disney has. If you read up on some of the facts about it - you will see just how much money & work goes into it - and just why it still works so well. Ever wondered why the pavement is red on the road leading up to the castle in the Magic Kingdom ?

Pixar >than all of those.

Uh, Disney own Pixar.

Disney is still as relevent in todays culture as it ever was, they have moved with the times however they have done it so well we don't tend to associate them NOW with them "back in the day".

I think what you are trying to say is that oddly movies and character that are 10-20+ years old aren't relevant today.

Odd that.

uh, i know, what does that have to do with what i said?

or have pixar started making Donald duck or mickey mouse films?

Read the latter part of my post.

Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse are not the definition of Disney, in fact they haven't been for a very, very long time.

The characters may not be relevant any more, Disney certainly is.

I'm not saying anything about dysney.

he was talking about the old characters and it was just easier to write pixar than list all their characters.

all i was saying is the new stuff is more entertaining than the old simple stuff.

/\ What he said....

Disney own Pixar. And as I said, you can see all the Pixar characters in the parks. My sons love Nemo, Buzz and Cars.

How happy do you think they were when they were able to blast lazers in the Buzz ride, only to come of it and see a Nemo ride with all the Nemo stuff. Even Pirates of the Carribean ( one of their other fav. movies) has references / rides there.

There's just so, so much there that they recognise from their fun films and the characters they dream about meeting... and every area has them smiling with joy when they do actually think they are meeting them.... or at least seeing stuff they "think" is where their characters live.

To be honest - I think I had more fun than they did - and I didn't even have any beer :D

It was pretty damn amazing when I was a kid, both World US and Land EU. I'm not sure if I'd go again now considering my age and interests but I'm sure some young kids would love to go. Or their parents may just take them due to the "kids go free" offers you see on tele.

We live in a very stimulated society, where everything is desperately trying to draw our attention. Back in the day, Disney made amazing movies, that are still amazing today. But these days there's so much high impact media (strong colours everywhere, big sounds, etc) that I don't think kids today will quite feel the magic of the cartoons that we saw when we were young. The fact that "Cars" (an abomination of animation) is so loved by some of your children here only exclamates my point.

I really hated Disney stuff as a kid. No idea why. Now I have a wee nipper some of it is truly great. Some. I don't like how their DVDs are packed full of trailers and price fixed.
