Hi all

As far as I'm aware everything is plugged in on my wifes build... the following I've checked...

4 pin micro ATX connector -IN
24 Pin Connector - IN
CPU Fan - IN
Case Fans - IN
Sata Cables - IN
all the little pin cables (Power Sw etc) all plugged in

The GPU does not have a 6 pin connector so need for that..

Hard drive cables attached and also USB3 attached..

Is there anything else I need to check and is it ok to switch on to make sure all is running correctly.. I am ordering Disc drive for Windows at some point over next couple of days

Thank you

It's very difficult to actually break anything by not plugging everything in. The best thing to do is turn it on and see if works.

I'll add a caveat to that: If you don't have the heatsink seated properly there is a small chance of damaging the CPU. However, even with a poorly fitted heatsink, you should just see worryingly high idle temperatures and know to avoid high load applications until it's fixed.

That's ok then I think its all plugged in and nothing missing.. the heatsink is sat perfectly I'm sure.. even though I don't have OS it will still be ok to fire up then? Also how would I switch it off without OS? I don't want to mess it up

Press and hold the power button will turn off the PSU.
Andi.

Ok I shall try that now thank you.. so on with the power switch on tower and hold power switch down on tower to turn off
AS above re: turning off.

But hold down delete key on boot and have a mooch around the BIOS - and get used to navigating the environment. You can also monitor temps.

It's difficult to mess anything up permanently. You might find something isn't working, e.g. front panel USB or a hard disk isn't detected, a fan isn't spinning, etc. But you can safely turn on the PC, check everything is ok and fix this if/when you notice them. In the case on front usb for example, you likely won't even notice if there's an issue until you've installed windows- again not a problem you can just shut down and check the connection.

It's a good idea to leave the case open the first time, then you can visibly check all the fans are spinning. The first time you boot, enter the BIOS (it should say which key is needed on the screen. Often F8, F12 or delete). From here you should be able to see if the hard disk is detected, check all the RAM is detected and check that the CPU temperature is OK. In this heat and depending on your heatsink, "ok" will be anywhere from 35-50 degrees.

Cheers for this plec, when you say on first boot open BIOS is that when I have Windows installed

You can enter the BIOS without an operating system installed. You'll want to check everything looks ok in the bios before installing windows.

No, you don't need any OS installed to enter the BIOS.

Hold down delete (or whatever key it is for your MB - will be in manual) and you'll enter the UEFI/BIOS. Here you can configure your hardware to optimal settings, tweak clocks, set boot option, set the memory XMP etc...

Just look around - but don't save as you exit (just switch off).

Worst case scenario is that you would have to clear the CMOS if you made an erroneous entry and accidentally saved.

Have play and get familiar with it...

@Plec ohhh God.. I switch plug on and PSU at the rear and then press power button.. the led fan flashed for less than 2 seconds and then all went off... now it wont come on at all

Clear the CMOS using a jumper or by uplugging and removing the battery for a few minutes, try again.

Try nkata's suggestion - look in the manual, very simple (may involve a screwdriver if a gigabyte board). Be sure your computer is unplugged - and deplete any residual power by pressing the on switch on the case (a personal quirk of mine).

Check, also, that your motherboard is firmly secure and not moving around.

Also - complete spec list.

EDIT: Double, double check all your connections are properly fitted and secure - unplug and refit if necessary.

I've just had a read through the manual and all is correct and in the correct place.. still no response just a flash from the LED fans then off...

Here's the specs:

G4560 stock Intel cooler
H110M-K Micro ATX
Gtx1050ti SC 4Gb
1TB Seagate HDD
8GB hyperX RAM 2133mhz
Kolink 500w PSU which I need to replace as its not got a very good power output
