Just switched from IE7 to FF2. Have to say FF2 is much faster and efficient. Was wondering is FF2 safer for online banking?

Yes, very much so. I have always used firefox, my bank supports AES 256 bit encryption which internet explorer only seemed to do 128 bit.

I wouldn't say its anymore secure then IE, packet interception is unlikely if you have 128 or 256 bit encryption.

What he said.

Yes Firefox is safe, but so is IE7.

they are both the same thing no? go with FF, much better imo and with the funky lil addons that they have been doing for ages u cant go wrong.

Not convinced by the speed thing with firefox after you've added a few bits and bobs but would definitely use it over IE any day of the week.

The hundreds and hundreds of useful extensions you can add to Firefox make it a far better solution than IE.

I'm a FF user, but the question is on security, which there is no real decernable difference.

Right. But as that was established very early in the thread there was no real reason to elaborate further on that particular point.

I was merely stating that as FF has a vast collection of extensions it becomes a better overall solution then IE.

The OP probably already knows this, but perhaps it might help someone else reading the thread who hasn't used FF before. :)

FF is also far better at rendering web pages according to the "Acid 2 test"

Should look like this:
http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/reference.html

IE7 shows it like this:

Whereas FF shows it like this:

And the FF 3 alpha aka "deer park" shows it like this:

Try the test yourself here

Add NoScript to that list!

FF (bare) < IE7 < FF with extensions!

Although it is using about 120MBs of mem for only a few tabs... and that's not uncommon!

When doing a website recently and testing it in both websites I noticed how much easier text is to read in firefox. No idea why but it was simply clearer and sharper.

I've hardly used IE for the past 3 years though, I detest IE7!
