Is fish a meat?

to me vegetarians who eat fish or eggs are just copping out..why is a fish considered fair game when a cow isnt

I enjoy devouring all forms of living creatures....why should a fish be treated worse than a cow, especialyl when the majority of fish are wild creatures and not bred specifically for food like shee pr cattle

a fish eating vegetarian is destroying the world wild fish stocks, makes them far worse than omniverous old me :)

Because there not vegetarians. A vegetarian won't eat any flesh.

The only reason fish isn't classed as a meat is to allow rich catholics to get away with eathing it on a Friday.

The church classed loads of things as 'not meat', including beaver (snigger), so that folks could get around the rules.

It bleeds, it has muscle tissue, it lives, breathes, reproduces, it has flesh. So yes, it's meat. I know why they categorise it as "fish" - however it's no different to things being in the "poultry" category, as a whole they are classed in my mind as meat.

Your mind is 100% right. "Poultry is the category of domesticated birds kept for meat, eggs, and feathers." Same for fish. And frogs, snails, dogs etc...

I've been talking about this with my colleague who swears she is a vegetarian in spite of the fact she eats fish. She is not a vegetarian.

My gf, on the other hand, has never eaten fish or any other kind of meat in her life. So she is a vegetarian.

I think the reason some 'vegetarians' eat fish is a psychological one only. We can relate to animals more since some of them are cute, they make noises, they are larger, they live in similar habitats, they have legs etc.... so they are more 'similar' to us than fish. Fish look - and are - very dissimilar to humans so they are harder to relate to, but they still feel pain and have meat.
