Is fish a meat?

I've been talking about this with my colleague who swears she is a vegetarian in spite of the fact she eats fish. She is not a vegetarian.

My gf, on the other hand, has never eaten fish or any other kind of meat in her life. So she is a vegetarian.

I think the reason some 'vegetarians' eat fish is a psychological one only. We can relate to animals more since some of them are cute, they make noises, they are larger, they live in similar habitats, they have legs etc.... so they are more 'similar' to us than fish. Fish look - and are - very dissimilar to humans, but they still feel pain and have meat.

Take her fishing. When you have to whack the fish over the head with a rock or against the ground and gut it - it'll either make that person a) throw up (dunno why it affects some people  ) b) turn her 100% vegetarian c) turn her to a proper meat eating person again :D

I did the same to an ex with a steak. Cooked myself a superb fillet, beautifully. She couldn't resist it. Mwahahaha.

you let her eat your steak  my steak is my territory.

fish is... A KIND OF MEAT.

I have a vegetarian friend who eats fish because he doesnt think they can feel pain. haha

I think for the sake of it you can call fish meat but being pedantic and stupidly technical you would just call it fish.

Simplest example I can think of is in a supermarket you have the fresh meat , fresh fish and fresh poultry sections. You could argue the other way if poultry was located in meat but its not.

Persoanlly I think we should just call them all meats for the simplicity of it but wikipedia and supermarkets disagree.

Also on the vegetarian subject I read a funny phrase the other day which I see in action all the time in people at uni.

" There are 2 types of veggies; Girl veggies who think and animals are cute and guy veggies who want to **** the girl veggies."

I'd say fish is meat, what else could it be? Other than just fish :p. Would be like saying "no, chicken isn't meat, it's poultry" lol.

well surely an egg is just an undeveloped/unfertalised chicken....it would given the right conditions become a chicken...

It is a ball of goo, life has not in fact started in an egg yet - at least not for the ones sold in supermarkets. Does it either live, breathe or have a circulatory system before the egg is fertilised?

a fish eating vegetarian is destroying the world wild fish stocks, makes them far worse than omniverous old me

Do you eat fish? If you do then it could not place them as worse than you, merely on a par if you want to put it in such terms. And as already pointed out they aren't vegetarians they are pescetarians.

In 'logical' terms yes.

In religious terms it is not.

Depends on how you are defining meat, as in 'the flesh of an animal' or by what the Bible says.
