Is Foie Gras naughty?

Ive had it twice before, but have to say im not a fan. Just too smooth and fatty for my liking, I just dont like the texture mostly.

Not really bothered if it is naught or not. I didnt stop me trying it the first/second time and wouldnt stop me again.

well there's a horrific over-generalization. there's a whole world of difference between humane killing and torture. for the same reason i dont buy battery farm eggs, or eat at kfc, i wouldnt touch fois gras.

I too actually care about animals, I never buy battery hen eggs, I dont wish animals to suffer actually. I know it was a generalisation, was just making a point thats all:). am just tired of the animal welfare groups trying to ban everything (there is even a movement to ban fishing in this country - because its cruel! (and yes it is actually cruel but we need to face up to the fact that we cant consider every single action we make.)

Quit your lame attempt at being patronizing - the ethical food evangelist! Do you eat in McDonalds?

No.

Yep you guessed it, all such foods are linked to acts just as cruel for animals. Get off your high horse and whats with the purile personal insults?

Oh sorry, I figured since you called me a whining hippy, we were good to go on the insults front.

It's amazing the sheer amount of people in this country who refuse to buy battery eggs, yet ironically are happy to eat cheap battery chicken meat in sandwiches, on pizza's, in microwave meals, in fast food joints etc etc.

It's a lot harder to buy free range meat than free range eggs.

c'mon the animals wouldnt be alive if it wasnt for the cooking of em they should be glad of that

if u dont like it go veggie

hell no. It's great. We're at the top of the food chain. So it's there bad luck.

This is pretty much my thought on the matter. We got to where we are by being better at killing things than any other creature on the planet. if they don't want to be eaten, they should evolve big **** off claws and do something about it.

Whatever..

I didnt call you specifically a whining hippy, it was a general statement...

I agree totally. Its amazing how people complain about foie gras but do the very same you mentioned above. And quite frankly I dont think people have the time or will. But yet a high profile case such as foie gras gets all the heat. Its a little like some proposterous environmentalists who keep on harping on about taxing flying - its a PART of the problem not THE problem. Anyway sorry, its a sore topic for me!:p

It'samazing how many people think free-range is that much better. unless you know *** source. it could just be battery farmed. but allowed to roam outside for a few hours a day.

Just like organic can be battery farmed. but on organic feed.

I also think if you can't kill and prepare meat. then you shouldn't eat it. However I have no problems doing such things. I think a slaughter house visit should be part of the gcse national circulum.

I love the people saying we're at the top of the foodchain therefore screw everything else. The fact that we're sentient beings and don't actually live inside the law of nature like animals who live and act on instinct completely removes us from any kind of food chain. Fois Gras- the methods of making it are totally draconian and are basically torture. The thought that anyone would deliberately want to cause harm to animal is beyond me.

You a vegetarian?

fact is animals die to provide us with meat, how they die is sometimes unpleasant but in the end they still die

i personally have no conscience about such things and would easily eat fois gras, veal and other meats that me be considered un-ethically killed

No it doesn't remove us from said food chain. it means we have the choice to do things differently. I'm all for certain animal rights. Like humane killing. But I'm not going to have any second thoughts about killing or eating anything.

Our social evolution removed us from a foodchain, there is no survival of the fittest in human/sentient existence, we are not predators, we do not 'need' to eat animals. Yes I am a vegetarian, and I don't oppose the killing of animals- what concerns me more is their treatment whilst they're alive.
