Is "Freesync" dead?

Further on this issue, I woulkd suggest people watch this weeks WAN show from LTT. (from about 15mins in for the relevant bit)

Completely debunks the rumour of product placement, being paid for by NVidia. Definitely not happening.

Edit: Dammit I cannot get it to start the clip at the right time sorry.
Yea but would it be surprising if they did? If they could they would.

Well after watching the entire WAN show, it become blatantly obvious that it doesn't happen. Of course some people will believe anything of NVidia regardless of how much evidence they are shown that it is just not true.

I don't beleive they would at all after watching that show.

It is kind of silly really - though I only tend to watch Gamers Nexus and occasionally LTT anything like regularly - most of them have had largely static displays for years and years with a mixture of nVidia and AMD bits in the background that change around from time to time but with no real pattern relevant to the video specific content the odd exception aside i.e. the odd special video where they put relevant props in the background.

Not to say there aren't channels that do it I have no idea - but definitely the main accusations are LOL.

Well the way it is being put across is that NVidia are tight bottomed company and don't spend money on stuff they don't need too.

The TLDR for anyone who doesn't want to watch the WAN show, Linus talks to Steve, kyle and Jay live on the phone and they all completely debunk the idea that NVidia is paying for product placement in their videos.

Even I thought "yup I can see NVidia doing that" but after seeing the WAN show, I am in no doubt that it doesn't happen.

I mean nVidia might be doing that I have no idea but the main accusations are ludicrous if you've even half watched some of these shows on and off over the years.

Adaptive Sync and Gsync solve a lot more problems than just tearing. But you see that's your problem, you started this discussion on a flawed premise and you have no choice but to twists the facts and selectively misquote to try and show that you are right.

It's not working though, and most people on this thread have seen through your BS.

How did you get that ^^^^ from this?

Ok, i just ran the G-Sync Pendulum Test.

What i can tell you is with V-Sync on and V-Sync off i don't get any screen tearing, what i do get is micro juddering on the lateral motion, or Ghosting??, V-Sync off or on looks identical, motion judder... its not micro stutter, it looks like the image isn't refreshing smoothly, its VERY noticeable.

When i click G-Sync on that judder disappears completely, it is butter smooth and the image is crystal clear during that lateral motion, its working on my 'None G-Sync Approved Free-Sync Screen' and working very well.

If you don't see the same on your screen, i would suggest G-Sync isn't working.

I'll watch it later but yes i agree with you and i have earlier in the thread, certainly i don't buy the paid placement of Nvidia boxes and its fun to watch people now pull up videos claiming they are examples of this  They did it to Steve from GN and he was not to pleased about it.

Right, i did as Jim did emphasis 'rumour', like Jim its something i wouldn't put past Nvidia, IMO they have gone beyond the arrogant stage to narcissistic.

Green GTX boxes in the background on shelves is just decoration, tho in the past some have pointed out that some Youtubers box art shelves seem to be entirely green, others have pulled up people like HUB for having too much Ryzen box art in the background, i think one can always pick at something that is entirely innocent. (I mean, they are good looking boxes :D)

The only thing that i've ever found odd in a review was Steve from Gamers Nexus, on reviewing the first Threadripper CPU's, almost sneering with attitude "you don't need this many cores" CUDA does everything, all you need is CUDA, aside from being factually wrong he said CUDA more times in that review than he said anything else.

That's the sort of crap i'll be looking out for.

Yup it all gets covered, I would definitely recommend watching it.

I hate these fake talk show style videos by tech reviewers, Bitwit With Paul from Paul's Hardware are the worst, pretending to be drunk fake slurring utter nonsense for an hour + in a really annoying way.

It starts proper here, but they take a very long time digressing to; but being cringeworthingly unfunny to get to the point.

https://youtu.be/p_jnz4eBPIs?t=1109

Its about 20 minutes ####'### about and phoning other tech reviewers to say "none is getting paid to place Nvidia boxes" after about 23 minute they eventually get to the crux of it.

I prefer the way Steve from GN dealt with this, that was somewhat amusing. Posted above you.

PS: when you put the time stamped URL into a Youtube HTML Container it takes out the time stamp, just post the URL

You need to go back and read the entire post that you picked this from. I was replying to EastCoast and showing him that he selectively took a line out of your post to prove his point but ignored the rest of your post which concluded that Gsync does make a difference. I just posted your entire quote in reply to him to show him how wrong he was. You also told him off about this.

Oh ok, my bad :)

On tearing topic, I have never witnessed tearing on any of my CRT's at any FPS well above the HZ with V-Sync OFF (I cannot stand V-Sync) as it can happen not will happen.

I have however seen it on LCD's

The main game I play competitively I use very high FPS with vsync off and TFT copes OK with it. I did the same with CRT a while back but the problem was back then it was difficult to maintain a rock stable high framerate due the hardware being weaker (and indeed software less optimised) which meant occasional tearing when running FPS at only double the refresh rate. If I plugged a CRT in now it would probably be OK as can reliably maintain a framerate at several multiples of refresh rate.
