Is he going to jail?

One thing i'm wondering is why don't they know the girl's age? Did her family (who the press have obviously spoken to) not know either
Sky News aren't the best source for news. According to CNN, the NY Daily News etc. the victim - Amber Sadiq - was 8 years old, and was walking home with her 10 year old brother at the time of the incident.

LOL.......got to laugh at the headline........'boy faces murder charge'

What a pile of carp! It wasnt pre-meditated so its man slaughter (clearly).
Sorry, Oracle, but you're wrong.

The definition of what and does not consitutute murder depends on the jurisdiction in which the offence occurs, and definitions vary widely. In some US states, there is a category of murder called felony murder, which boils down to a killing that occurred while committing a felony, regardless of the standard intent for murder. Oh, and bear in mind that what the UK mornally calls "manslaughter" is called "murder in the second degree" in the US. And taking it one stage further, criminally negligent homicide, which is what the charge apparently was, requires no intent to kill, and is otherwise know as "murder in the third degree".

And, of course, the case in question took place in the US. So, technically, that headline could well be exactly right. It is indeed murder.

tbh could be the parents fault tho, because I was brought up not to do something as stupid as that, because they are eight its either that they are trouble makers or there parents havnt taught them right or wrong. Perhaps the kids need waking up.

Yet she was stupid enough to walk in front of a bus.....
She didn't walk in front of a bus. She was walking with her brother, presumably on the pavement, and got struck (presumably from behind) by a run-away school bus (which, presumably wasn't making much of a noise rolling down the street without the engine on). That was a totally unnecessary comment

That grade A student thing is in every single news article like this.

Grade A student, bright, bubbly, caring, considerate, fun, friendly, perfect sweet little angel. I doubt that every single time this happens the child is like that :p

If I had died when 8-12 I would have loved to have seen the quotes about me, as they would have all been lies. I was a **** at that age haha.

Interesting case, and it throws a lot of ethical issues into the air, but I believe he shouldn't face criminal charges at that age where he doesn't know their implications. Im sure he will never forget it though, which I guess is the main thing and will stop him doing pranks again!

didnt it say she was trapped behind rubbish bins or something? they should put him in jail for a couple of years. that should make him not anything like it again

What kind of prank involves letting loose a parked school bus though? Knock-down and run? Lethal injection for the win

Well I went by the Sky article that said she walked accorss the road
Sky said:
Amber Sadiq, who was aged seven or eight, was crossing the street near her Brooklyn school in the US when she was hit.

I'm not trying to make out the boy who let the brake off hasn't done anything wrong. Just the fact that this girl (according to the sky article, havent read any others) could have avoided the bus.

Just had a look over all the articles again, and it does appear as if she was crossing the road at the time. Still, you can't really blame her:

CNN said:
Amber Sadiq, 8, was crossing the street near her school Monday afternoon when she was struck by the bus in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Crown Heights.

"She tried to run, but the garbage can was in the way," said 12-year-old Kassandra Polanco, who saw the bus bearing down on the girl.
New York Daily News said:
Straight-A student Amber Sadiq was holding hands with her older brother on Nostrand Ave. in Crown Heights when the driverless, passengerless yellow bus careened out of control and crushed her under its huge wheels just after 3 p.m.

"She was trying to escape, but it was too late," said Rhonda Brown, 26, a neighbor. "Her foot was caught under the wheel and she got hooked underneath."

The girl's 10-year-old brother, Umar, who had just picked her up from Public School 161, barely managed to get out of the way as the killer bus bore down on them at the corner of Crown St.

Don't think they had any idea what would happen, when I was about 5/6 I took the hand brake off my dads truck when he was getting some fish and chips, the truck was parked on a hill so it went rolling backwards down it, I can just remember my dad running down the hill and jumping in to quickly pull the hand brake up again.

that was one of my biggest fears when i was younger. i used to have terrible nightmares about doing that.

If he knew to break into the coach threw the fire exit "which cant be unlocked" at the age of 8 then he must have had some idea of what he was doing and the consequences of his actions, Jail Bait imo.

i've always taken "Jail Bait" to mean something that i sincerely hope you're not implying in that post.
