Just been told off for taking a call while at a checkout in my local Aldi's, a carton of eggs are sitting there waiting to be scanned and the young girl at the till glares at me with her hands in the air and says rather aggressively "do ya want a be served or wot?" I said "excuse me whats the problem?" and she starts ranting that I shouldn't be on the phone while at a checkout.

A quick google threw this up,

So to sum up do you think it's acceptable to use your mobile while at a checkout?

I'd consider it a bit rude to be on the phone in that sort of situation, but I also wouldn't expect the person working the till to actually mention it, it's not worth the hassle/effort.

I used to work on the till as a part time job, I thought it was pretty disgusting when someone comes up to the till on the phone without even acknowledging your existence. Wheres the manners? They aren't machines...

Totally acceptable as long as you're paying attention to the checkout operator when/if they ask you something.

This, the only time it used to irritate me when i worked in retail was when they were more interested in the phone than paying and letting me serve the next customer.

I work in a supermarket and I find it rude. I would never pull somebody up on it as it isn't my business and it iisn't worth the hassle.

So long as these aren't the same people that moan when they have to use the self checkouts as 'I like to be served by a human being'.

It isn't difficult to take a two-second break from your phone call to apologise in advance to the cashier.

Pff, we all know checkout staff aren't human beings.

Shop online :)
Most the people on checkouts are moody, and self checkout is painful if all of them are being used by slow people with full shops...!

Been using online for ages, brings it to your door and you don't spend money on impulse buys, the only downsides is sometimes the substitutes are pretty weird (can also be a good thing :D)

I think i pay £36 (new prices) for 6 months of delivery, any day, any time.
