Is it going to get harder and harder for us to sell...

From the company car perspective - I can only assume the monthly cost of the car will increase (due to faster depreciation and higher road tax). This is likely to lift some cars out of some people's company car bandings... and make the new BMWs super attractive.

Thing is though the higher tax will increase the cost of a company car by what, £20-30 a month? And the sort of person at the salary level required to justify a BMW 545i for example isn't even going to blink at that.

All it's going to do is prevent people on very low incomes running large engined cars. Which from a social point of view may or may not be a good thing depending on your opinion...

I've had my head in a bucket regarding this new tax thing, how will this affect my Fiesta ST? Its only a 2.0 N/A engine, nothing exactly insane about it. I dont know or frankly care about my emissions but am I going to get hit with higher tax also?

So with 177gCO2/km you were paying £170. You'll pay £205 next year and £210 the year after.

Well, I'll be in the £440 bracket next year.
The thing that annoys me, is that people can't just decide to sell their cars just like that. I would take a huge depreciation hit on my Lexus as I've only had it a year.
The old system, where it was only cars registered after 2006 that could get the highest bracket was much fairer.

My workmate is annoyed because his 1.6 automatic focus is now going to fall into the same bracket as my clio 197, mwahaha...wait a minute..BOOOOOOO

Makes me think about selling the Lexus and getting a 2000 plate BMW 750i instead. Faster, drinks more fuel, produces more CO2, cheaper to tax.

looks quite good to me, £20pm is bugger all and could potentially make a large depriciation hit on the type of cars i want to buy :D

How does that get around the large road tax issue? It doesn't.

More likely that those who do have large cars will use them more to get their moneys worth. Come March next year I will have to pay £430n a year tax whether I do 1 mile or 100,000 miles in that year. Currently I often walk places, sometimes get public transport, as it's a little easier than the hassle of parking at times.

I'll be using my car as much as possible to get my maximum value from the road tax once I have to pay £430 a year for it.

No your right it doesnt, but at least you wont get the double whammy of paying for your large engine in terms of fuel aswell, ok if you dont do a lot of miles then it doesnt really mater, but for people like me doing 18k a year alone for my commute, then its just not feasible to run a low mpg/high tax car day to day.

how about social issues? Will those who drive fuel guzzling performance cars start to be looked down upon?

I had some looney at the petrol station giving me jip and saying im a planet killer while filling up my car. He drove a prius I can see it getting worse. Dam hippys :D

The new tax system means that my ST170 is in the same tax bracket as a new Focus ST. Lets just say I don't think it'll stop me upgrading to something a bit faster ;).
