Is it going to get harder and harder for us to sell...

When you consider a 1.8 Ford Focus is over £250 per year to tax as an example, it'll make people think twice. Although you'll still get people who don't check this and buy it without realising until the tax is due.

You sure?

My 2.0 focus will only cost me £170 this year, £175 next and £180 the year after (unless they change it again).

I had some looney at the petrol station giving me jip and saying im a planet killer while filling up my car. He drove a prius I can see it getting worse. Dam hippys :D

Oh man, that is one reason why I need a bigger engined car. I hope you gave him a right talking to about how friendly his car is to the environment, probably more so than yours will ever be!* My Phocty vRS does 192 of Carbon machines per hippo so i'll be 260 next year, doesn't bother me so much as knowing it'll go as close to planting some nice trees as i'll go to a gym in the next 6 months.

*what is your car? If it's one of those big diggers they use in open pit mines then oh well he may have a point.

tehehe I would have loved for somebody driving a prius to say something like that to me, I would then highlight the manufacturing/recycling costs of a prius and then highlight my lovely dead cow covered seats :D

Well if yours is 2005 plate or newer the rates you have quoted are correct :) However, if it's older then it's a different story

1.8 Focus Edge on a 2004 plate:
CO2 Emissions 181 g/km
2008: £170
2009: £260
2010: £270

2.0 Focus Zetec on a 2004 plate:
CO2 Emissions 204 g/km
2008: £210
2009: £300
2010: £310

06 plate, lucky for me :).

Didn't realise the older Focus kicked out more on the emisions.

Still a con calling it road tax when its based on emisions, if they wanted to make it credable thay should have a flat rate for road tax i.e. £100 then an emision tax on top of that which encludes all cars.

Eventually when everyone/the majority are using those low emission motor cars, the tax on those will go up you would expect? Sorry to diverge from the topic.

Can't believe a 2.0 Focus will be more expensive than my vRS to tax!

This man speaks the truth.

Did you:
a) Tell him you couldn't give a flying fornication
b) Explain it was none of his bloody business.
c) Pointed and laughed and asked if big ears or noddy was driving it today.

Self righteous cretins like this get right up my nose.
