Is it just me or have telemarketers..........

Last time I got a telemarketing call I said "sorry, this is a business line" - and they said "ok, sorry, bye"  :D

Has to be the way forward :)

Either that or "I'm a tenant".

Actually the only way forward is to sign up for the service that gets you off their lists.

Yeah definitely, if you say that you're a tenant, they will lose interest very quickly.

What about silent callers?

That TPS thing hasn't stopped silent callers from calling.

Are you sure you're holding the receiver up the right way? ;)

I assume that silent callers aren't trying to sell you anything (unless they plan to use subliminal messages) so they'll not be covered by the TPS.

Silent callers are generally trying to missed-call you, it's just a machine on the other end.

The deal is you're supposed to ring back out of curiosity, then they keep you talking until you've spent about £15 on their line - one caught me, luckily I twigged fairly quick!

There is an additional service to block silent callers.

It does help but it doesn't eliminate the problem, it is a voluntery sign up fot eh companies calling.

There is no way to block international called callers yet via TPS, although that is being worked on.

better still i put my 4 & 5 yr old on to screen the phonecalls :)

i have signed up to TPS and will tell the cold callers this if they ring up.

another very useful thing to do is to interrupt them after telling them about the TPS and say "could you repeat that for the benefit of the tape?"
works a treat

Silent phone calls or calls that are silent and then disconnect after 5 or 10 seconds are telesales company's that use a mass dialing machine thingy. This machine will ring a given number of phone numbers simultaneously, the first person who answers is immediately redirected to a sales person. If you pick your phone up and your not the first person to do so or all the sales advisors are busy, you will hear nothing and then burrrrrrrrr......

My wife told me that and she should know, she's one of them :D

My phone is by my PC, which i have a wav file ready of sound effects. I often act as if I am interested then say I am going to get a pen and then put the reciever to the speakers and let loose the wav file. Always in stitches when I do this. :D

I once had an Indian guy plead with me to go with his offer because his pay wasnt very good and he had to support his 2 brothers !!!!

I am for my sins a Lib dem and have had telecanvassing from people for the various candidates recently.

Unfortunately for the Simon Hughes bloke I am not a big supporter, my wife called me over to talk to him and just picked up the reciever shouted NO down the phone and hung up... havn't heard back ;)

A while back someone posted the anti-script for sales calls on here as well... which I thought was brilliant.

I keep getting calls from Orange asking what I'm planning to do when my current contract runs out - but I'm not even with Orange, I'm on T-Mobile.

Maybe I should play along and get me a free phone...

This is strange because I get calls from companies who say they can get me a better deal on T mobile but I'm already with them  I signed up for that TPS thing though and I don't seem to get any more sales calls to my mobile, ah bliss

I've been registered with TPS for a while now and the only calls I've had have been those awful recorded message things. It's definately worth it.
