Has anyone here ever done any telemarketing?
/hangs head in shame.
I hated it. I felt like I needed a bath in Dettol afterwards, I felt that grubby and grimy.

On the plus side, answering an unexpected call with "Hello, is Dave there please?" is always good for a laugh. So far I've only had one person tell me I'd got the wrong number and hang up! :D

I always give sales people a hard time, they are often bossy which I dont like, espescially when they say things like, can you tell me your date of birth for security reasons etc, why should I prove who I am to some random person who I dont want to speak to!

I have a Vodafone call centre that ring me quite regularly. So far i've convince them of the following:

I'm a top director for Orange and it wouldn't be wise to support other companies.
I'm the Orange telemarketing centre.
I'm a gay phone sex line. (That one was hard to do!)
I was in the middle of a meeting and they had lost me several thousands of pounds on a contract because of it. (Clearly i would have switched my phone off if it was real though?)
I answered it using Microsoft Sam. Quick typing required!
I pretended i was drunk once and they tried to exploit it so i would buy a better deal!!!

And finally i pretended they had rung one of their colleagues at work by chance and got them to stand up and look for the waving person!

Well I work for a company, we have a small telesales area on the bottom floor, we don't ring up random people for business, we send out our sales people to the other business that may be interested in our services, over the phone is so impersonal.

But if our telesales department is an exact model for other companies, then I doubt most of the males on these forums would hang up on them. What I mean is that 80% of the workers in my telesales are young hot females, I am in the department quite often as these young women seem to know less about IT than any other departments, either that or that just not afraid of asking for help.

Next time you get a call from telesales, try gettin a date :D

Telling them "it's a business line" really works, since I was once rung up while at work, told them that it's the main line for my shop and they said "sorry" and hung up.
