Is it just me, or is Android a mess

I really want to be an Android user. But there are so many things about it that from iOS, make me wonder whether Google and their partners truly care.

There honestly doesn't seem to be an Android phone that works as well as the iPhone does but has all of its features. Every Android phone not from Google has slow updates, so the Google Pixel 2 I hear you say! Lots of hardware issues, especially on the XL.

There just seem to be so many issues with Android phones, this isn't intended to be a rant. I just find it frustrating.

nokia is also fast updates,
however, I would still rather a crappy android than apple rubbish.
wish work would move away from Apple, it's painful doing even simple tasks due to how pointlessly its locked down. Just look at attachments for email for a start.

If being on the very latest version of an operating system is a priority, and you've already discounted the pixel phones, then android isnt for you.

I have to say, it's not like the iPhone is perfect. IOS 11 bugs / crashing. Battery slowdown fiasco. Antennagate.

Maybe it seems like Android as a whole has a lot of problems because there are many Android manufacturers and only one iOS manufacturer.

But this is the point, why should people settle with an old version of an OS? It literally only exists in the world of Android. Windows 10 runs on PCs from 10 years ago...
Yet millions of users still run older versions every single day...

because windows doesn't have to be customised per device, unlike Android it is down to the oem and often the carrier as well to modify Android before pushing the update, hence Chinese firms save money and just don't update.
there are more than just pixel phones i you want the latest and you cant judge all androids by the worst phone.

this is something google is working on though.

I think a better question is why should I demand the latest OS updates? Whats actually in it for me?

I've had my Pixel 2 XL for near a week and it's easily the best device I've had and to showcase what Android has to offer.

Yes the screen could be better but I've come from Samsung devices and I'm more than happy with the screen. Then again, Samsung make the best displays and nobody comes close.

Windows updates are pushed from a single source (Microsoft), Android is OEM specific therefore the 2 are not comparable though from 8.0 Google are addressing this with Project Treble however this still relies heavily on the OEM's doing their thing in good time.
If you want Android and the latest updates then buy a Pixel or Nokia handset, if those don't suit you then buy an iPhone or accept delays in updates.

Yes Android is fragmented but with that fragmentation comes choice and lots of it, also think to yourself why do you want the latest updates?
What do you with your phone that demands the latest updates are installed and if they are an absolute must for you then buy the right handset to fit your needs.

Android is pretty messy in a fragmented way and that often isn't a good thing but personally I've not had many real issues with it.

One thing I don't like though is that with each major revision you seem to get 2 areas that go forward massively and one area that goes back massively with almost always one area that you only get a lite version of the features of an older version of the OS and seems incomplete and never gets updated.

Well security for a start. I read recently many OEMs don't actually update security patches even though they say they have. They just change the month in the About section.

I've never understood the impatience and sometimes anger shown by Android users waiting for updates. Oh great, another load of useless features 95% of people will never use. Cool.
