is it me or is GOW Cack?

I finished the single player last night.

In terms of the gunfighting aspect of the gameplay it's awesome, the AI is great and I had some really fun situations.

On hardcore difficulty it was just about right, I think it took me 5-6 hours to complete though :( It definately should have been longer.

I think for GoW 2 they really should concentrate on the story and getting some more cinematic gameplay sequences going, fair enough you could argue the whole rodie run and getting into cover is cinematic but after a while it just becomes a component of the general gameplay.

MP is fun, although I'm not sure how much longevity it has, I can see Rainbow 6 Vegas being the next big thing on Live.

hopefully this is waiting for me when i get home tonight, so it better be good !

did you guys play straight on the hard difficultly ?

I didn't try Casual but Hardcore was just about right once you've got into the whole duck and cover controls.

Going through on Insane now

Apparently so, though I can't confirm as I'm on Casual right now.

Yes, you definitely do - I played on Hardcore and got all the "completed Act 1 on Casual" acheivements etc.

It's okay for a tech demo.

Oh stop trolling. The game is not a tech demo (how would it possibly be when there are so many other games with the same engine due out soon?) and holds up as a fantastic title on its own merits. The fantastic AI and sound are part of what the developers have acheived, not simply an effect from the engine.

I'm not trolling!!!

IMO any game that blatently starts out as a tech demo is starting from the wrong place to create a classic game. It's a game tacked onto a showcasing of an engine.

Apart from gfx, it's no better than a multitude of other FPS's.

You're talking **** and you know it. You're completely ignoring the effort that's gone into the sound, design and AI - the parts that make the game an experience.

And how did it blatenetly start off as a tech demo? The fact that the people showcasing the new Unreal 3 engine requested to use GoW's material due to how impressive it looks?

Why is it because it looks nice, people ignore all its other merits? You can't deny that a phenominal amount of polish has gone into this game in every aspect.

Well I suppose if I walked off the street and saw screen shots of GoW, I'd say ooooh its pretty, but that's about it.

Once you play it you'd think differently. Yes the graphics are very pretty. The attention to detail is amazing. For example when standing over a leaking pipe, the drips bounce off my character, rather than clipping through. Small thing, but fantastic. The cover system is brilliantly executed, as are active reload, the AI flanking manoeuvre's etc. The story, imo is a little flaky, but to call it a tech demo is a bit much. The amount of effort that must have gone into this game must have been crazy.

The only beef I have is that the multiplayer, while great, could do with a proper lobby system.

It's still not that great an FPS. I admit it looks beautiful when playing, but it's very generic & (IMO) quite a boring experience in the end.

I do believe I remember seeing an interview with the game's producer, saying that it did start life as essentially a tech showcase for the Unreal 3 engine - but then they realised they also had a game in the making.....

Anyway, you've got your opinion & I've got mine. :)

I have been a big shooter fan for many years. Of late, with the exception of the CoD series, most fail to deliver.

GoW is one of the 'must have' games for anyone with a 360. A certain percentage of the game is nothing new and seen before in many other colours. Saying that, GoW has taken a side step on the usual shooter and done it very well.

I have not tried MP that much but imagine it can only get better over time, map additions etc.

It should definitely have a lobby system (hopefully in a patch). Also the fact that people who seem to join midgame annoys me soo much. You haev to restart the game and invite everyone again. So it means if you start a 6 player game, when 2 others join you need to restart the room.

To those who don't enjoy the MP mode. Join one of the games that Krono or Myself (rp2000) host and I am sure you will enjoy the game after a couple of rounds. It tends to just have other forum folk on it and, I find, it is much more enjoyable then playing with randoms.

i'm not overly keen on it either, finished act1 on hardcore with my m8 but its abit of a effort as i cannot get to grips with the controls, find the GRAW and R6LV method much better for wall hugging, to me in GOW just seems to iffy

I'm not a massive gamer nor do i have an xbox 360 but i saw a mate play this game and i thought it was pretty *language!*, looked good but nothing more. Anyway i picked up a controller and went through the whole game co-op style and i've never had so much fun and enjoyment out of a game since halo which i still play fairly often with my brother. I'm no games expert but i'm definately a joe bloggs and if i can fun with it then i'd consider it a classic because it is something i'll just keep playing in the future.

Thanks
Luke

Swearie mate needs editing.. good to hear you liked it.. it can look like its all about the graphics but as our matches last night proved its definitely got the gameplay mechanics to back it up.. although it does just look fantastic sometimes.. unbelievabley so..

I wouldnt say the game was cack, but its not the best game ever either. It has borrowed a lot from Resi 4 which IMO is a superior game,as it gives you a bit more satisfaction in shooting things which is basically what these games are about.Still enjoying the game though only played single player ATM.Can imagine coop being a lot more fun.
