I agree that there is a linear aspect to the game, but I don't mind that at all. There is a story that emerges loosly, so I am glad that there will be a folow up to develope it.
Graphically it is immense and is extremely playable. The control system is great, with only a few small niggles and the AI is very good, surprising me sometimes.

Tech demo, please..... yes it is a great showcase for the game engine, but there is actually substance behind it. Have you actually played the game?
 
Fools don't realize that all the glowing reviews actually harp on about the gameplay more than graphics. Even reading a review or two would be enough to give enough acknowledgement of that, but these fanboys know jack squat. You cannot change the mind of a person whose mind is set before the thing has even been touched.

Seriously calm it down please guys. :)

Everyone has a right to their own opinion when it comes to a game, some will like it and others will not.

Maturity comes from accepting other peoples opinions, even if they clash with your own.

I have ordered Sonic instead of GoW, I will personally have much more fun with that game as GoW is not of a genre I like on consoles and to me it seems to much graphics over gameplay.

The test comes in five years, will people still be playing and rating the game just as highly; like Mario 64, or will it have fallen out of favour being 'one of those greats'.

Its one of the best titles on the 360 you can not argue with that, just everyone may not see the game in the same way and you have to accept their opinions on the game.

FYI I game on PC, Gamecube, XBox 360, have had the XBox, N64, Jaguar, Sega Master Sysytem, PS1, PS2 & PSP and can't wait to get my hands on a PS3! Fanboy, eh? :rolleyes:

I merely stated my opinion on a game that I own. Just because you like the game, don't jump down my throat because I don't think it's the best-thing-ever. :(

EDIT: It still irritates me that so many people feel you have to strategically position yourself behind just one console maker (especially when I'm accused of it!!).

IMO i think GOW may lack some essential multiplayer menus and Game options. However me and my mates had a day off on friday and played 4 on 4 match, the amount of screams was plentiful as people tagged somebody or chainsawed off there shoulder, its been the most satisfying game i've played in a long while. If you've completed the the story mode this game is well worth it for the online play.

EDIT: I think I said why I don't think the game is that great - I'm not going to waste my time dissecting every aspect of it!

It's a game for crying out loud. Dont get your knickers in a twist :/

Will be playing my mates copy tomorrow, althought I'm not too excited about it. THe actualy gameplay/story/controls look a bit, meh. We'll see.

That was your first "contribution" to the thread. Yeah, totally well explained - I wouldn't class that as trolling what-so-ever. I can't believe I ever fell under the misconception that a post like that couldn't be classed as anything but a well constructed piece of opinion, that is obviously well informed and covers everything about the game! Horray!

Really, it may not be bringing a new set of cards to the table, but they're a bloody good set. It hasn't been the first to introduce the cover system into a game, but it does it better than any other. I can see why it's called generic, don't get me wrong - but it's a fantastically polished game.

And whilst we're on it, I'm getting fed up on this 'opinion' BS. Yeah, everyone has an opinion, but some people just shouldn't be allowed to voice it. Just because they 'think' something's crap, doesn't mean it is. Opinions CAN be wrong. The game is far from crap. It's not to your taste, but that does not make it crap.

Opinions can be misinformed, and therefore people will have the opinion that an opinion is wrong, but you can't outright say some opionions are wrong. Generally, Gears of War seems to be a very good game to most people, but it certainly looks boring and dull to me, in my opinion.

I can also say that I think Goldeneye and especially its multiplayer were total crap, but that's my opinion, and I have good reason for it to be to me personally. It's not wrong, though a lot of people would probably be highly offended nearly at that kind of statement.
 
As has already been the case in another thread today, there seems to be some confusion as to what an opinion is.

An opinion is specific to each individual person and they can quite easily be the exact opposite from each other.

deSades opinion that GoW 'isn't that great' is just as valid as MoNkeE saying it is good.
 
DeSade, I dissagree with your opinion completely. You are not right or wrong, but there are aspects of the game that I find enjoyable and I can understand if you don't. However , if you are going to give an opinion

But I did afterwards - it was an off the cuff remark at the time, backed up later. People shouldn't get so wound up about games anyway! :)
