Is it normal for Ryzen to hit 74c

That deepcool looks really impressive. Is it quiet? and i see in the video he puts on top of the case. Can i remove one of my 120mm fans and place on back of pc?

It is quiet, i can't hear the pump, when the fan ramps up to high speed it makes a noise but its not too loud, you can set it on a quieter profile at which point it makes little noise at all. Its quieter than the Kraken X31 its replaced, which died after 5 years.

The RGB lighting looks good and is addressable through my Motherboard software, you can RBG adjust the colours but it doesn't do that Rainbow thing that higher end RGBs do.

I have it mounted at the back of the case where the extractor fan would otherwise be.

Yeah cheers, Im going to mount at back of my case too. I just bought the single 120mm fan one. My case is a Antec P100 and it does a good job of dampening sound so it should be fine.

Its got me a little confused fitting the deepcool. Do you use the outer brackets to attach backplate for AM4. Same as intel?

And do i use included backplate or my motherboards own? Cos judging from diagram i use my own for AM4.

Screw the brackets out of the AMD bag to the cooler, use the studs to screw through the motherboard into the motherboards backplate and fasten down the cooler to the threaded studs.

Use the one from the Motherboard.

Its should look something like this.

In the AMD bag you should have double ended threaded studs, the thicker ended threads screw into that backplate, the thinner end is for the cooler brackets you screwed on to slide over, use the screw nuts to fasten the brackets on the cooler down.

Edit: you will have to take the plastic clamps off the motherboard first, the ones that you used to fasten the stock cooler down.

No problem :)

I'm going off line for a couple hours, anymore i can do for you just post back, i'll come to it later :)

Thanks. Well the backplate that came with my motherboard Msi tomahawk Max seems weird. Im sure im using the correct screws, but when i screw them on my backplate just rattles insecure. Im sure ill figure it out lol.

What about the other way around for the backplate. Flip it over so that the sticky up bits are facing away from the mobo? As the mobo standoffs will give enough room for them to face that way.

I was thinking that. And i wasnt even sure if id been using the backplate correct. But it seems i have been. People on reddit say the sticky white cover/plastic on the bracket/backplate is there to protect the motherboard. Metal touching the back of the board can short or even fry the motherboard. Ive got myself all confused here.

Also if i flip it then there's nothing stopping the nuts against the board. I dont want to damage it. I hope my backplate isnt incompatible. Be just my luck.

Try the bracket that came with the deepcool. There are 3 sets of double screw bolts, double check the AM4 and not the TR4 ones? Which deepcool is it?

Its the Gammaxx deepcool L120. I cant see anyway the supplied backplate/bracket could fit AM4. And the supplied double ended nuts just are too long to secure the motherboards bracket to the board. I cant believe it.

You had the AMD stealth before didnt you? So you attached it down on those pre-installed plastic retainers that come preinstalled on the motherboard via a pre-installed backplate?

I've just looked at the installation manual for that new deepcool cooler and it looks like you just remove those plastic retainers but leave existing backplate in place. Then screw the 4 double screw bolts into the existing motherboard back plate. Then attach the AMD AM4 brackets to the CPU block then screw that to the 4 bolts you just installed using what look like thumbscrews.

Any chance you could show some pictures so we can get a better idea please

No i had the Wraith cooler so you remove the 2 plastic brackets. And ive done exactly what you described im pretty sure. Ive tried everthing i can think of. Tomorrow ill upload some pics for you. Im having a bit of bother uploading pics with my googlephotos and photo bucket at mo. The only thing i can think of at min is see if i can find some nuts to make it secure. Ill try tomorrow but i do thank you all for the help.

Unless screwing the actual cpu block pulls it secure? Hmm ill try that later and report back. :)

I think im not taking into the equation the cpu being present too. Maybes itll be more secure? Hmmm.

Ive got it on secure. I had to put pressure on back of plate to push up then secure on block. This had me stumped. But i got there in the end. Im bit worried to over tightening the thumb screws securing block i dont want to crush my cpu heatspreder.

Great, the backplate not being tight up against the board without the cooler on it is normal, just as you did push it through, once you tighten the thumbscrews the whole thing clamps together.

Have you had time yet to test temps?
