using x2 sata hard drives. so xp on 1 and win 7 on the other drive but with options upon restart on which to load up ?

if so please can someone point me in the right direction for information on how to set this up.

thanks

Thats pretty standard.

You just install 7 on one disk and xp on the other.

When the machine starts it will give you an option of which to boot in to.

I think however it matters which operating system you install first for this to work as intended.

Found this good read.

Yes I've done it but cocked it up so rather than getting an option screen regarding which to boot into, I have to load a different profile in the BIOS. Works but could be better

There is a small program you can download for exactly this purpose, to give you the operating system menu so you can choose, I cant think for the life of me what its called, hopefully someone will know what I mean?

EDIT: EasyBCD thats it! Its in the guide opethdisciple posted above.

just install xp on one hard drive then win 7 on the next...it's as simple as that, you will be given the option of which OS you want to boot into.

i used to do the same thing but then found it a bit annoying everytime my computer restarted it would wait x amount of seconds for me to select a boot device before booting to device 1. i found it best to install them both and select from the motherboard, this way it always boots into my chosen device unless i hit a key at startup and enter the boot menu to change it.

i haven't tried it but in theory it should be possible to install each OS on a drive one at a time, while disconnecting the other drive(s) then use the motherboard's boot menu to select which drive to boot from.

in theory this *should* make both operating systems independent of each other and not use any boot loader menus or such.

no never cannot be done.

thing is i have no other way, i have xp 32, so it wouldn't let me install win7 64 from desktop due to having xp pro 32< so i tried from start up way and then when it gets to chose partition it says unable to put on that disk due to disk controller might not be enabled when it is :(

any help pls ?
