Is it possible to impregnate the universe with life?

Imagine we sent up a load of cryopreserved cockroaches, spiders, bacteria and stuff into space and shot it into all directions in hope of it landing somewhere and thriving?

Imagine in 42 billion years time. Star-Trek could actually be real with the amount of life we will have spewed out to distant planets and even other galaxies.

Definitely an 'I can't sleep' thread

Current theroy calculates the universe at 13.82 billion years old so 42 billion is pretty freaking long....

Unless you used 42 because its the answer to "the meaning of life" or the distance in light years of the observable universal horizon.

How would the life survive the billions of years trip in a sealed container without any form of energy such as sunlight?

I have always been a bit of a fan of Panspermia myself.

I suspect "simple" life is pretty well everywhere it could possibly survive.

"Complex" life, like we have on Earth is likely to be much rarer since I suspect that the planetery conditions (geology etc) are key to complex life evolving and that the precise mix of planetary conditions that might be necesary might actually be rather rare.

Kudos to you MooMoo444 as your comment in post #13 was exactly what I expected to see the instant I read the thread title.
