Is it racist ?

If it were my birthday at the weekend - it's not which is unfortunate because that setup would have worked a lot better if it had have been - I'd have no hesitation in not inviting any of the people in this thread to join me for my made up birthday. Everyone just sounds so brittle and point-scoring and just ... literally awful.

And there would have been ice cream too :(

Even me with my funny dialogue of the womans woes and thoughts pre cursor to the event? :( Very sad, i love icecream and fake birthday parties

The employee should be fired, not just for breaking her own companies rules, but treating a customer with such disregard.

And I'd have the same attitude if she was White, Asian or Eskimo. Although I'd possibly make an exception if she was hot...

The employee is very much in the wrong here, also very stupid it seems, to be breaking a rule in uniform - should have at least put on her own clothes.

As for racist? Can't see a picture of the employee but assuming they are black then it's just the usual 'Anything related to black people let's call it racist' rubbish.

The racists are those saying stuff like "eating while black". They may as well say "different rules for different skin colour".

Exactly, non-racists would see a woman eating whereas racists see a black woman eating, somehow because they defend the black person and attack the white person it's acceptable? it's kind like of what I said in the other thread about the media disseminating supposedly racially offensive material under the guise of protecting black people.

The sad thing is if had been a white person flouting the eating rules and telling a black woman to worry about themselves the story would be totally reversed, if there were no black person involved or two black people it wouldn't have even been a story. If you want to cause friction between white people and black people rather than having them feeling united then making every possible story about race is a good way to go about it.

Also again it's a case of a non-criminal act being 'corporately' dealt with by penalising someone outside of the legal system (in this case losing a book deal) on the back of an offended mob, it's like we're being governed by a collective mindset with unwritten rules rather than a system of law and order, oh wait what's that in my sig?

You should probably read the story, the person who made the complaint is not "white"

Ms Tynes, a Jordanian-American who identifies as a "minority writer"

Everything is racist these days.

Seems a bit OTT to be cancelling the woman's book contract though just because she reported someone breaking the rules.

Stupid rules as they might be - could understand a ban on drinking alcohol.

It does also go to show that you just shouldn't use social media to express opinions, they clearly backfire and then ruin your potential future career.

By recent US standards, technically, she is actually white.

Since the US used to officially discriminate with segregation at a state level and on a federal level with respect to immigration they have plenty of case law detailing who does and doesn't count as "white" - Arab Americans historically fought quite hard in the courts to be recognised as white people. Though I guess these days there are obvious advantages to identify as a "person of colour" instead.

I eat on the tram, I'm not allowed to eat on the tram. But I'm hungry, so I'll eat my crisps on the tram and everyone else minds themselves.

That’s your way of seeing things, at the risk of upsetting you and lots of other, **** you, *** the law/rules, I’LL do what I want, where I want, when I want cretins, my way of seeing things is that morons who eat on public transport, where it is expressly forbidden to do so, should be hauled off, a cattle slaughter bolt gun fired into their heads, and their carcass fed to pigs.

Snitch.

Where’s your rebellious comradery? If a law banned you from opening your eyes, would you follow it?

Not racist. The ones trying to make this a race issue are idiots of the highest tier.

If the rules suggest not eating on a train unless there is a hidden message somewhere which excludes staff from that rule, then it goes for everyone. Now, I don't think I would've been outraged at seeing someone eat on the train enough to go and air it on social media but hey ho. That's the world we live in. "My followers must know exactly how i feel about every little thing"

We literally have laws against smoking weed, and yet every few hundred meters you smell it anyway.

There are some rules you should breaks cos funk the polis.

What is this about?

Woman accused of being racist because she challenged a worker breaking rules that apply to both customers and employees?

Because of this the publishing house has wanted to distance themselves as much as possible. Thus indirectly supporting those that have decided she is racist...when clearly she probably got told off last month for eating something then saw an employee do the same and flagged it.

If her tweet was more exploratory..."hey metro, not giving your staff enough time to have lunch without breaking your rules?" Everything probably would have been alright.

I don’t agree with everything that you post Strider, but it’s usually intelligently put.
Did you have an off day with the imaginary law banning people from opening their eyes?
I’m more of a rebel than I am a conformist, but I’m no comrade of those who eat on public transport, be it crisps, a lettuce leaking smelly kebab, or a stinking chicken dhansak, and having been born at the Elephant and Castle, and raised in deepest Bermondsey, I’m no snitch, that was considered worse than stealing a poppy seller’s tin.

I think if you see racism in the the people who are calling the woman racist then your the real racist.
Explain?

Black women broke the law/rules. She was pulled up by another minority ethnic woman, not for being black but for breaking the law/rules.

People rush to defend the law/rule breaking woman, literally saying that you cannot penalise a black woman for break the law/rules or you are a racist.

Ergo, laws/rules cannot apply to black people.

Something is not right here.

She should have mind her own business...

I’m not sure it should have gotten to the point of losing her book deal - but I’m afraid I have little sympathy for her.

I don’t really understand why you’re not allowed to eat/drink on a train - seems very weird - but mind your own damn business! :p

I also don’t understand why race had to come into this argument at all :/
