Is it right to claim fraud in this situation?

Just out of interest, what do you get for £7,000 in a polish strip club?

This must be an easy to win fraud case. It's £7,000!!

You can't argue anything other than fraud. Phone the bank and simply say you were on a stag-do with friends having drinks and someone took your(his) card out of your wallet and run up a big bill. To be honest, you want to play on this a bit. Why on earth didn't the banks anti fraud system flag it up? Hell, natwest blocked my card from a £3.50 boots meal deal the other week as it was deemed unusual. Unusual!!!! I eat those every day of the week.

You can't spend £7,000 in a strip club unless you are an A lister buying expensive bottles of champagne. are you?

Your mate needs to get his story straight. It's probably an easier lie to sell that his cards were stolen than he was spiked in a club, especially if there's no police report. His main issue will be the lack of a police report. Without this there will be no chance that he'll get his cash back I wouldn't think.

Sucks to be him, but I really don't think he's got much chance of winning this one as it's far too easy to disprove. Also if the club has CCTV he is stuffed and might actually end up being taken to court.

Thanks for replies! I was chatting to him until 2am last night! He's an idiot but just trying to advise on best plan. I told him straight he's dug a deeper hole claiming card got stolen. But he's dug it now. He knows not to use the card but what a silly move.

Apparently 7k amounted to a whole load of drinks, private dances and they even made him get naked. Bizarre. Nothing more than that apparently. Total rinsing went down.

"Made" him? totally against his will? and for what reason, exactly?

Your mate needs to report this to the Polish / Gdansk police so at least it's registered as a possible crime.

Making a fraud claim because your friend has been a idiot sure will be a hard sell, banks don't like paying out at the best of times. However, if he has a crime number it may make things a little easier not sure if the bank will payout until the Polish police fully investigate the potential crime although that could go either way. In his favour, the Polish authorities wouldn't want their tourism industry tarnished because scams like this go on.

* As others have said, credit card usage in a place which is likely connected to organised crime is definitely a no no.

A polish passport, a child who will call you dad, and a woman who will call you daddy. Nappies optional, if that's your thing.

Drinks and private dances don't add up to 7k

What's a dance these days? £20

and a round of drinks....let's say London prices so £10 for a spirit and mixer

That's 350 dances (17.5 hours worth)
or
700 drinks

or a combination of the two

I'd love to see the credit card statement

The reason I ask is that I think it's very easy to prove this as fraud, basically ask them to show you where and how that £7k was spent

also, and this is a serious recommendation, get him to visit the hospital for a checkup...the last thing he wants is an STD. If he was drugged and ended up naked, who knows what went on

He rather recklessly spent £7000 on his credit card in a very bad way. At a strip club in Poland. The thing is he is completely adamant they took advantage of him and basically robbed him of the money. Even likely spiked him. They essentially took complete control of his wallet. They even knew his pin somehow.

So you say "he spent it" then they took it off him? how did they know his pin?

it's likely he got drunk. spent the cash. can't remember.

so IMO he should foot the bill.

If you want a private room or to go into VIP. Dances start at £150 for half an hour and that is if you are drinking bog standard moet. if you want cristal then it's around £1500 per hour.

so yeah i could if i wanted to rack up a £7K bill inside 3-4 hours.

Happened to my mate in another Eastern European city but only to the tune of around £2k. He even got marched to the cash point by 2 huge bouncers and forced to enter his pin. The police didn't want to know as they hate dealing with British stag parties and because he willingly entered the pin/withdrew the money the bank didn't want to know. Quite an expensive lesson.

This is why someone has to take responsibility on a stag do and do some research in to places to avoid or find somewhere with good reviews that is legit. Whenever I have been on stags to these Eastern European places it just seems everyone is looking for an opportunity to take advantage because it's so easy to do with no repercussions.

I agree with getting a police report etc... he was stupid to have not done that. Ditto to anyone caught in a clip joint scam etc... they’re not likely to actually beat up tourists so getting the local police right away could resolve such incidents.

Unfortunately the authorities as in the prosecutors or people in the police who can make this stuff go away are likely corrupt in some of these Eastern European places else these clubs couldn’t operate in the first place.

That sounds like a clip joint scam, also quite common though doesn't need to involve swiping a credit card multiple times but rather involves an inflated bill for ladies drinks either in a strip club or in a regular club/bar after the unassuming punter has ordered for himself/friends + the attractive girls (or strippers) that sat with them (or in some cases girls that pretended they were tourists too and pretended they wanted to join them for some drinks then took them to the bar).

It used to happen in soho and was hard to crack down upon as the parts involved actually sold no alcohol and provided no adult services, just gave the impression they did and actually charged say £500 for a non-alcoholic cocktail or some orange juice with the prices printed on some tiny menu somewhere. Since the people being ripped off often thought they were going to a brother or lap dancing club and were often tourists they didn't report it and would willingly go with the bouncers to a cashpoint to be fleeced. Though unlike Eastern Europe the police did operate undercover stings in order to get prosecutions and get them shut down so they're no longer feasible in the UK.

As you say doing your own research is best, it is a free market and that includes demand for legitimate strip clubs that don't rip you off. Granted if you're in a place like say Budapest where it is notorious for clip joints then you might well end up having to pay closer to UK prices for a legitimate strip club. But the beer is generally cheap-ish still, and you can relax knowing the place has multiple solid reviews from trip advisor etc.. and you're not going to be forced to spend any amount other than your entry fee and whatever drinks or dances you want.

I'm not sure, there was a video on youtube about thailand prostitutes. They were telling the interviewer about their techniques in spiking drinks and getting their credit cards

There is a drug (cant remember the name) which makes you do pretty much anything before falling asleep for two days.

I think he's made a real bad move doing that myself.

Yes if it wasn't clear before, your mate is a full on moron and has probably ruined any chance of seeing any of that £7k back by lying about even being at the club

Next time he should go with his parents so they can look after him as he's clearly not capable of doing it himself yet

I'm not sure you'd fall asleep for two days per say but you can certainly be knocked out for a few hours, the US rapper Cardi B recently admitted that she used to drug and rob men when she worked as a stripper.

It's illustrated here too:

Without translating it looks like it is talking about me:

According to Google translate, dowie means “find”, but having a very slim knowledge of the language, I don’t think it’s that.
Nie ma za co, (you’re welcome), you can also use prosze, but that’s the normal reply to dziękuje, (thank you).
ETA żona nie sie dowie means, (wife will not know), so the dowie bit may mean not find out.
