is it time to move to the i7 920

I could be wrong but aren't NVidia cards generally better for 3D rendering and stuff like that? you can even mod some of them to Quadro.

yeah i was gonna but to about 3ghz i dont wanna push my processor too far and how far are they pushing overclocks with them and i think the i7 will be around for a few years

hi there, I think the reason that you're not getting much luck while overclocking your 6600 is that the p5n-e sli mobo isn't very good for overclocking quads, so you've got limited wiggle room there.

I've not run the i7 on stock cooler - I have a Prolimatech Megahalem - but for 3ghz I'd guess that might be possible on the stock cooler - hopefully some one who has tried it can confirm.

A lot of people are getting 3.5-4.0ghz on 920s, with many people getting higher than that - so 3.0ghz should be a walk in the park for you :)

If you don't want to overclock yourself - why not check out one of the bundles?

John

If you want to O/C to 3GHz then the stock cooler will be fine. You should be able to take the 920 up to 3.4 on stock voltage quite safely.
