Hey

Just wondering if anyone was in my shoes would they upgrade any of this PC?

Case: Lian Li PC7 (This is as is, no other fans or anything - I don't know which fans to buy for it :o )
Memory: GeiL 4GB
CPU: E8600
CPU Cooler: Artic Cooler 7 Pro
Graphics Card: Asus ATI 4870 512mb (Not the exact one, but pretty close)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB 16mb cache
Motherboard: Gigabyte DS3-R
Sound Card: Asus Xonar DX 7.1
PSU: Corsair 520W

I would say the weak points are the motherboard and HDD. But I don't see much point in getting a new 775 motherboard atm. Should I just wait for like another 5-6 months and get an i7 build going on? :P

yes but tbh its a pretty good system:D you could possibly use this for the next 4-6years just overclock you CPU more add a better HSF and new GFX card when Dx is main stream:Dabout your hard drive and mobo just leave the mobo its fine just update the BIOS if required, the hard drive get an SSD when the price drops to run your OS but tbh your cpu should clock to 4ghz very easily with the EO stepping:D

Would be a waste of money too upgrade anything other than you have suggested, unless your a performance freak. In which case you wouldnt be asking the question...

If it works dont change it.

Only thing I would 'upgrade' is the HDD and possible the GPU when you find yourself needing a new one.

Your motherboard is fine, unless you want to go mad on OCing the CPU.

Rig looks pretty good. Mobo is alright - upgrading to another 775 motherboard isn't gonna have much impact in itself, so you might as well wait until your next major upgrade.

If I was upgrading anything there, it would be the HDD. I had that exact HDD, and swapped it out for a WD Caviar Blue 640GB. It make the PC noticeably more responsive under Vista, and read rate in HD Tach went from 65MB/s to 95MB/s. Plus you get more space and you'll be able to reuse it in your next build :)

Yeah Mattus, that's what I was thinking. But the question here is, should I wait for SSD to drop in price as well? As I am pretty much using the PC for gaming and I hear they are excellent read times for loading game maps and such.

And the shocking thing is this PC is at stock settings atm (apart from ram which I forced to 1066mhz) as the last time I tried OCing, 2 months after a "stable" OC I was getting blue screens and my lovely Crucial RAM died on me and I had to RMA it :p

I don't have the heart for that again!
