Hi, am I right in thinking that my motherboard will not benefit from crossfire of 2x 3870's because the other PCI-E slot is 4x only?

Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. not true, there will still be a big performance boost, ive had crossfire 3870 on a 16x and 4x board, performance increase was still close to 75%
It will work and you will see a benefit but the performance would be very slightly limited by the 4x slot.
For similar xfired 3870 performance it would probably be more adviseable to get the 3870X2 and just use the single 16x slot.
Before i had the X2 i ran 2x 2900XT's crossfired on a P35 DS3P. The performance improvement was good but the X2 i have now returns better gaming and benchmark results.
