Im wondering whether i should get an xbox.

Whats the best deal going for one of these? i would like some games preferably ones i can custom choose in the package.

probably start off with Wolfenstein & Halo at first.

what other good fps, driving, platformers etc are out on xbox?

how easy is it get online with?

also how long will this remain Microsofts premier console?

Also thinking of getting a good 15"-20" tv for it, what should i go for and what cables should i get for best image quality/sound?

-- yes you should

probably start off with Wolfenstein & Halo at first.
-- halo / pgr / doa3 / tiger woods 2003 / splinter cell - all are good

what other good fps, driving, platformers etc are out on xbox?
-- wolfensteins good, brute force is good. project gotham is the driving game, xbox aint big on platformers.

how easy is it get online with?
-- **** easy - buy XBox live for 40 squid and plug it into broadband

also how long will this remain Microsofts premier console?
-- until 2005

Also thinking of getting a good 15"-20" tv for it, what should i go for and what cables should i get for best image quality/sound?
-- SCART and digital audio setup

;) - hope this helps.

thanks for the q&a

very happy about the 2005 info.

i think Game are doing a deal for two games of your choice and the console for £179.

bit dissapointed about the online payment thing sounds a bit of a rip that :(

what kind of digital audio setup are we talking about here? also can you hook it up to say a CRT or TFT?

-- the official SCART cable has a digital audio output, so you can go to digtal in on a hi-fi... you can go to cft or tft if you get a VGA box... go with the nice 21" telly m8 ;)

Id say deffo get one, it kicks the PS2's butt.

Dixons have it on their site for £128.90 (think it might be a web only offer, as it was in the paper the other day as £149 instore)

Halo and Splinter Cell are games for you first few.

As for other games:
Racing - Burnout 2, PGR, RSC, Midnight Club 2, Midtown Madness 3
FPS - Medal Of Honor Frontline, Halo, RTCW, Mace Griffin Bounty Hunter looks quite good

Xbox live is easy to setup. I had my xbox setup within about 5 mins of putting the XBL disc in XBOX, compare that with about 5 days of setting up the stupid $%&£"!$^ PS2 whcih was usless compared to the xbox.

If you have broadband then get XBOX LIVE. It is extremly easy to get online, just plug everything in and put in the CD actually.

If you go online get MotoGP and Ghost Recon. probably two of the best games available online right now

I'll second that.

If you like FPS games and driving games, the Xbox is very good. It does lack platformers tho'.

Spinal: You missed out SegaGT on your list of driving games, I think its one of the better driving games on the Xbox.

CD

PS. Make sure you read the Xbox Live Sticky :P (</pimp>)

I personally wouldn't, because by doing so you are aiding microsoft in gaining yet another monopoly, this time in the gaming industry.

Microsoft will acheive this as a result of their money, not their inventiveness or creativity. You only have to into account that the X-Box is essentially a PC with an nVidia graphics card to corroborate this.

Microsoft see a decent PC game almost ready for release and then buy the rights for it so they can make it X-Box only.

I'm never going to be party to the demise of my own consumer freedom, which is why I'll never buy an X-Box

I couldnt give 2 hoots what microsofts plans for the console market place is. If they make a good console and it has good games that i want to play then i will buy it (precisely what i done anyways).

I see you mentioned that he would be helping MS gain another monopoly. I dont mean to sound sarcastic but what other monopolies do they have?

You will when the only console you can get is an MS one and games aren't released for the PC anymore.

Have a big  on me. If you believe that then im afraid you are beyond help. Even more so if you think abstaining from purchasing their products would make the slightest difference in Microsofts plans of global domination ;).

Ha ha ha. I do hope your not serious.

With the Xbox, MS have made some major changes to the console formula. You say no inventiveness or creativity, but how about the first console using PC components, the first console to have a HD as standard, the first with Broadband only internet gaming. They most certainly are inventive and creative.

As for saying the Xbox is just a PC with an nVidia gfx card in it, YAWN, how many times have I heard that.

Demise of consumer freedom? ROFLMAO. Yeah, because MS is going to be the only console maker in a hurry.

No, its true. Look at Collin Mcrae 3 for example, Midtown Madness 3 (Yes I know an MS Product) & Halo. These will all be/have been released for the PC way after the X-box versions came out, in a backhanded attempt by MS to force people desperate to play the games to purchase an Xbox.

If the console is that good, they shouldn't need to do that.

Sometimes I DO want an X-box, but then I think in years to come I may regret the decision because, as a consumer, I will find very few avenues to choose from in the games market.

You only have to look at the history of Windows to see what I mean about. Look what happened to Netscape, Microsoft integrated IE into Windows 98 onwards so much that it can't be removed. Not many people are going to install other browsers when they have one pre-installed on their PCs.

Another point of interest, is that since Linux has been becoming a desktop OS in many European local government offices (replacing windows), MS has seen it as a threat and has been funding SCO (Unix Authors) suing the various different Linux distributors (for supposed theft of copyright) in an attempt to put the existance of Linux to an end.

Also, MS are working with M/B manufacturers to create Paladium, a secure platform which will make it impossible to download & use unverified/licensed/signed software on your computer. What will happen to freeware or home-written sw>One up for the $$ hungry over charging sw manufacturers and one down for PC owners, their wallets and privacy.

Microsoft have been a very innovative company, don't get me wrong, but they are taking it one step too far, and not taking into account the well-being of their customers.

I for one, will be switching to a decent Linux Distribution, if Paladium is as they say it is, by which time, it should be refined to the extent of MAC OS for example.

I'll say it again, its a PC in a fancy case with a TV card. Its even got a network card. LOL

:D

erm MS didnt have anything to do with Coin McRae 3, it was out for the PS2 before it came out for the xbox. And it was codemasters who done CMR3 and took ages to port it over to the PC
