Well im doing a quick upgrade to play games like BF2 untill the DX10 cards come around and prices go down then im getting a new computer, but if i want to play BF2, BF2142, should i just save money by buying another 512mb stick and having 1gb? or just spend all my money on 2gb?

I think those two games don't use more than 1.5gb, well I played bf2 on maximum on a friends machine with 1.5gb and it was chug-free so... it might work with just an extra 512.

depends what the spec of your pc is and what res you play at?

Yeah that too :p

1gb was fine for me on BF2. Ran great. Didnt notice chugging that much either :)

Dont bother with 2gb on that just for now. Wait till your rebuild and then get 2gb

Personally I'd add 1gig to bring it up to 1.5gig.

I'm assuming your motherboard doesn't support dual channel of course (I'm guessing it's a P4-2.66B)

yeah im gonna get a 1gb stick, but my computer only takes 2100 ram, and my current ram is only 133mhz, so buying a 1gb stick thats 2100ram but 266mhz, ive heard that that can sort of **** things up and they wont work.

DDR266 = PC2100
DDR333 = PC2700
DDR400 = PC3200

Your current RAM is DDR266 too, which is double the speed of your FSB (133Mhz actual, *4 533Mhz effective)

You can still use DDR400 or faster on your mobo just that it will run at DDR266 speed to match your FSB speed. Just make sure you buy branded ones instead of generic to ensure better compatibility with your current 512Mb stick.

Yes it will work, branded modules are generally quite good in terms of compatibility.

But bear in mind that with RAM it is impossible to be 100% certain until you've tested it, the more modules you use the greater chance you'll have instability problems.

It will be a good idea to find out which RAM your computer is using. You can google search for CPU-Z which will give you details about your RAM.
