is it worth overclocking?

I have recently built a second system for my kids around another i5 4670K. TBH they dont need any sort of OC, and the system is perfectly quick enough and runs a dream. I would say i notice only slight speed difference between this and my 4.7ghz system, but very impressed with it at stock.

I have also managed to under-volt this stock system, it now only needs an amazing 1.028v @ 3.8ghz turbo ...... most of the time i have it 0.6V @ 799mhz

well if this is so.... why not, then there aint no point bothering with next years CPUs at all.... because how powerful the cpu is doesn't matter any more.

but the one to keep an eye on is the GPU

ok it's overclocked at 5.1 right now.......67 to 70 degrees load; 25 to 27 degrees idol.

right now it's running with only one fan on the cpu, but under load both were running, case fans never speeded up.

right let's turn on Prime, watch it crash :eek:

damn it...........it lasted about 5 seconds ....but it's pretty obvious it would :D:D

but it's very stable at 4.5.......load temp = 58 to 64 degrees.... it's going up a bit, up to 80....down to 76.....down to 65  It's pulling 148 Watts...1.36v VID......that power looks too high

this'll reach 4.7 with Prime but lets face it, no game will ever stress the rig like Prime will.....in fact, no game will stress the rig because it never has......but it's so fast back at 3.8 with the 7990 is it worth it?..... no, i'll leave it at 4.6 ( I bet it'll hit 4.8 on a game easily )

how does this compare to the i5 2500 ????? well that was much noisier at 4.5.... this rig is quiet under load, the case fans haven't speeded up at all, these new slim megahalem CPU fans (VORTEX) are brilliant, they're doing all the work

What ! Overclockers members not overclocking permabans or at least a gimpy avatar for non clockers

That would be like being a member of pistonheads and admitting to preferring travelling by bus shame on you and your stock clocks

Yep I was quite confused too! :D

To OP - though you might not notice the difference, if you have the kit to do it then why not? You've already paid for it (in essence) by selecting the K proc and z97 board.
