Is it worth sacrificing TRIM for RAID?

As far as I'm aware, you lose TRIM support when you raid SSDs... but obviously TRIM has a massive effect on an SSD's performance-lifespan... so, would I be ill advised to RAID two brand new OCZ vertex drives for example?

Two of these together would offer a read speed of over a gig... which is tasty to say the least... but is it worth it for losing TRIM?

Thanks!

out of interest, what need for you have for £1000 worth of storage?

short and sane answer is NO, it's not worth raiding them..

Oh it's hypothetical - at the moment I have a corsair force ssd, and I was thinking of getting another to raid them. So please tell me, why is the answer "NO"

I'd appreciate a little bit more of a technical answer.

Thanks.

Sandforce uses internal garbage collection, so yeah well worth raiding. I plan on raiding 3 of the new Intel G3 drives when they come out.

I have 2 Vertex in raid 0.

They are very fast, check my last few posts if you want to see a picture of the benchmark i ran with them cant find the link off top of my head.

Whether it's worth the extra money depends on what you want. On a pure speed basis, i.e you don't reallllly need the extra storage but would like the extra speed, i'd say not worth the extra £100 over just having 1 of them.

However if you'd like the extra speed and need more SSD storage for games etc then i'd say it was definitely worth raiding them. And as i understand it the internal garbage collection does a similar job to TRIM :)

It's always worth an extra £100 hehe. It's something I'm considering as my next purchase... thinking of upgrading my case, and getting a new screen... (got a hench PC but still on a VGA monitor :( )

Just installed my vertex 2 120 yesterday.... now I want raid.... **** this pc buildig hobby is getting expensive, 2300 quid in one month but what i really need is some new trainers :P
