A few friends have been telling me for a while i should get a gmail account over my hotmail one.

I am now considering this as google+ is coming out and i feel maybe i should shift everything onto the one sort of domain or whatever.

Anyone got any reasons that i should stay with hotmail or why i should switch to gmail?

(Sorry if the wrong section but hadn't a clue where else to post it.)

When looking at job applications I associate hotmail with commoners and gmail with hip and cooler people.

Make of that what you will.

Yeah i have to say the hotmail interface is crap and the site in general very slow.

But switching over every single email address will be a complete pain and also '[email protected]' is already taken which is one of the things which will bug the life out of me if i don't get it.

I'll make sure if i apply for a job at your place Rich i'll use gmail.

Does this sound rational to you? You want to be persuaded to try something which you're unsure about and even if you do try it you'll get the hump because you can't get the special username you want? Am I reading this right?

Just try it and then worry about the - oh my God I can't believe I'm actually lending this any kind of weight because it's such a total non-thing - special username you want later.

BIG BOY PANTS. PUT SOME ON.

On my Hotmail account I regularly get those mails from Nigerians asking for my credit details so they can send me huge amounts of money, I also get loads of spam mails for viagra and stuff like that. :D

Don't get any spam to my Gmail account though.

I use my hotmail for commoner stuff and gmail for work/education related stuff.

We'd get on like a house on fire.

I get a lot of spam but it all goes directly to junk e-mail.

Going to make some random account and email the person who has the one i want and see if it is active.

^Not sure what you will achieve though that though:

1) You don't get a reply - can't do anything
2) You get a reply - they aren't going to just hand it over even if it isn't their primary email.

Yeah i know, more in hope than expectation, won't get anything if you don't ask though :p.

Think i'll just have to settle for a variant.

I switched over not long ago because hotmail completely blocks certain mail addresses (missed out on college taster week because it completely blocked the mail, doesn't even junk it ¬¬). Deffo not looking back.

open account if its not your thing close the account? its as simple as that. takes all of 30 seconds to create. last time I used Hotmail was when I was in school and that was a good 8 years ago :) and I havnt looked back either.
