hi

i really think my cpu bottlenecking my 2900 , or maybe it could be my nforce motherboard..

SM 2.0 Score 4311 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 4819 Marks

CPU Score 2301 Marks

Detailed Test Results

I doubt that your CPU is bottlenecking you, but be aware that your CPU will never get as high a score as the new Intel CPUs :)
I do not have enough references to the SM2 & 3 scores, someone else will have to check on that. However there's quite a difference between being bottlenecked and getting a lot score in part because the CPU won't get enough of a score.

10K is hardly bad either, i'd consider that a quite great score :)
My GTS got lower than that at stock :)

Good results you got there! :)

Enjoy you lucky person you!

[edit] just 55 Points away from 10K lol, it must bug you huh! :p;)

Looks alright doesn't it? Can you up the CPU clock at all and re-test? That'd no doubt shed some light. What sort of timings are you running your memory at?
I'm with you on the CPU bottleneck front, doubt it'll be a massive hinderance just in this bench.

Hi Gareth. I'm glad your OK btw but don't have a clue what happened to you unless you posted it or something?.

You are CPU limited btw. Remember you're running at 1280x1024 for 3dmark and that will get you CPU bound. I'm the same with 3dmark too. I score the same with a GTX (in my system now) as I do with a 2900Pro at 1280x1024. I might pop my 2900 in later and benchmark at 1680x1050 at speed in my sig (847/1000).

Resized - also this is on my ageing O/S. Not tried with a fresh install yet. This is at 847core and 1000Mhz on the memory. 1.213v on the core volts as the scores wouldn't raise until I added a little volts.

<--- Big image if this is too small.

It will not get you CPU bound, i run 1280x1024 as that's my max too and my CPU is definitely not bottlenecking me at that point.

Perhaps but the CPU is only a bottleneck in the case that the DX9 calls and whatever else the graphics engines uses to produce the picture take up more CPU time than can run in realtime. I really doubt that this is true in a simple 3dMark test. It's not bottlenecked if your score is simply low because of a slow CPU, cause that'll be the CPU pulling it down a lot.

To Original Poster: Try taking a 3dMark 2K1 or 2K3 test to take a test the GPU will render at a trillion FPS if it lets it do it, then you can see a CPU bottleneck in effect, and try testing with that. Otherwise, go for a Penryn dualcore when they come for a cheap effective upgrade.

It does get you CPU bound though. Explain an 8800GTX and a 2900Pro scoring the same. In fact the 2900Pro was nearly 100 points ahead of the 8800GTX lol. Thank god I'm not limited to a 1280x1024 screen.

I'm testing my m8's GTX and it's plain to see. My CRT goes up to 2k resolution so it only gets me in this and nothing to worry about. It's just a bit of a sore point when trying to compare my 3dmark score to other 2900 users :(. I'll have to do some bigger res 3dmarks with other 2900 users to see what my cards scoring. My system upgrade isn't happening until after the year so I have to put up with it for now.

my nforce motherboard is abit silly because my normal cpu voltage is 1.40v but if i set it to that in the bios the vcore goes to 1.52v which is too high. but the cpu vid is 1.40v, if i set the cpu voltage to 1.35v in the vcore goes between 1.40v - 1.45v which is right but the cpu vid is 1.35v and if i try uping the fsb alittle the system just goes off..

i've never had the cpu vid on my old motherboard.

Run a benchmark @ 1680x1050 Gareth. Leave performance at default though. The proper way to run 3dmark06 is with performance I know but I'm just swapping cards to help you out. I'll use 7.10's and run at 847Mhz on the core and 1000Mhz on the memory.

Please tell me if you are going to do it first though?, as I'll have to remove this Nvidia card, run driversweeper etc and then run the tests and do it all again for to get the card back in lol. I just don't want to do it and you decide to bugger off or something lol.

im using the free version of 3dmark06 i don't think it allows to up the res?

when are the next amd cpu's will be released? and will they work in the am2 motherboards?

The next will be Phenom, should be here in a sec, they'll bring some quite nice performance improvements but will start at quite low clocks. They'll probably be competetitors for C2D, not Penryn unfortunately.

wish i could up the cpu but the motherboard won't let me as i said above..

my memory is x4 1gb ddr800 5-5-5-16

Phenom should work fine on AM2 provided bios updates are released for your board, I'm sure Asus have already put out a couple of bios' supporting Phenom cpu's. Maybe I made that up or dreamt it...
Any chance your memory will do 4-4-4-16 Gareth?
