I'm getting random freezes in windows 7 for the last couple of days.

It's a seagate barracuda 7200rpm 320GB

Symptoms:
Every 5 mins
The PC just hangs, I can move the mouse, but the HDD light does not flicker for about 30secs and then everythigng is back to normal.
The CPU usage drops to 1 %

I already ran scandisk which improved things and it now does it once every hour

What I've done so far:
Scandisk, removed overclock, virus & malware check ok, downloaded seagate tools & it says the HDD is healthy...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Does sound like there is something going on with the hard drive that isn't normal.

Have you ran a HD Tune test? Can't imagine the Seagate one to be any good.

ran seagate dos. first it crashed at 60% in the advanced run, but passed 2nd time.

I just freed up 20GB as I was going to clone the drive to my spare one, and the freezes stopped altogether:eek:

Must be a bad sector ?! Anyway I can fix this ?

How full is the drive?

Can't remember the exact percentage but the drive needs to have a little free space to operate. Probably why it's all systems go now that you have deleted 20GB :)

Don't know what to do now...
I want to wait until the SSD's come a bit down in price before i get one. I'll just risk it.

Just take the normal precautions and backup all valuable data

If poss make a full back up image to another external drive using something like Acronis True Image etc.

ATB :)
