is my uncle right?

young drivers being inexperienced is a "problem" yes, but change the age, and instead of having 17 year olds that are inexperienced, you'll now have 21 year olds that are inexperienced. Not much different really. I do agree the driving test is far far too easy, and that is the main problem.

much different.
at 21, even with the same level of experience you will be a little more mature than at 17, less likely to show off and less likely to act like a merchant banker behind the wheel.
same amount of skill, less chance that through stupidity you'll put yourself into situations where lack of skill becomes a problem.

You can't raise the age from 17 to 21. If I couldn't drive til 21 then I wouldn't have my job. The same goes for a lot of young people. Sure it might be fine for people at Uni, but some of us actually work for a living.
this is the reason it can't happen.
it'd be discriminatory and therefore against the law to make the driving age 21.

Plus what magical thing happens at 21? You have little bit more maturity, but you can still be a complete idiot.
i totally agree, but the fact is there's more chance male driver A is an idiot behind the wheel at 17 than the same guy a few years later.

Unless you are required to drive a DLA car with which I believe you can begin driving at 16. I think this is only in exceptional circumstances though for people who are disabled or people who are required to drive a DLA car for a disabled person.

For the rest of us it's 17 though.

correct. I started driving on my 16th birthday and passed at 16 years old because im disabled. Like you say, its 17 for everyone else.

Well me and my mates all passed 1st time, I passed with 1 minor after 18 lessons with no non-instructor driving. I'm not saying every young driver is good, it depends on the individual but I would argue that reactions etc. do help I also believe that our control, lane discipline, observation, judgement and hazard perception are probably much higher than the average standard seeing as I know the highway code, got 35/35 68/75 in theory test, regularly checking mirrors and not being lazy with indicators and lanes like old drivers.

It could be argued that young drivers are a big liability and it's true that many are, due to boy racers etc. a high percentage of accidents and that is reflected in insurance premiums, but sensible young drivers are certainly the best, I'm intending to build a rally car soon and enter and win many races.

sorry hahahaahaahaaahahahahahaaahaaha
