Is "PC Gaming" a different thing nowadays?

That's the thing. I've spent many years watching Digital Foundry analysis and 99% of the time, I'd never spot the differences between console and PC versions of the same game (especially with the Xbox One X). The only real difference between the two is the frame rate and being able to choose your resolution on PC (the latter now being a bit moot as the Xbox One X is near 4K most of the time).

The problem I have is I am never happy with what I've got. For years I wanted a gaming PC, bought one and now a year later I'm bored with it and itching to buy new tech which is why I want the next gen to start already.

What you have now will last you another 2yrs even if you game at 1440p. 4K on pc imo is just a weird scenario as most monitors hit 60hz still. I've yet to see one sub £300 that can push past 60hz.
I recently upgraded and wish i never bothered. £2.5k and it doesn't even feel remotely worth it.

i had a terrible PC for years, bought the PS3, then my steam library got big and built a PC again, buying some of the games over again on PC. the console was probably worth it for RDR1 and the uncharteds.

not sure there's any exclusives that could tempt me back again with the size of my steam library as it is.

You missed out on Last of Us if you didn't play it already on PS3. God of war. RDR2 (might hit pc) Uncharted 4 to name a few. For me last of us warranted buying a PS4 just for the remastered version even though i played it to death on PS3.

I am growing frustrated by PC gaming once again. Just nothing out there that appeals and devs just aren't bothered about putting the time in to porting them well enough. Its just a quick push out and fix 6 months or never kind of deal now.

I picked up god of wars 1 to 3 for PS3 lately. haven't had a chance to play them yet.

I think i'm OK having seen a let's play of the last of us.
