Is RAID possible?

Raid would be fine as long as you have a sata raid controller. Id stick to mirroring myself and not bother trying to squeeze a little more performance out of it. dont forget even on mirrored setups you get faster read speeds than a single drive.

You need to make sure the pc you are fitting these to actually have a raid controller onboard or else you will have to buy an add on card too. the drives on their own wont run in raid (unless you use windows to provide a flaky software raid). cheap SIL cards can still do the job if its only for normal use.

Will I be able to mirror them as you mentioned without that RAID enabled? But doing this, having 2x250 will only give me 250 on a whole, is that right?
windows can run a software raid but if windows screws up it can bugger it up. Best bet is on a reasonable motherboard or add on card. 250 mirrored is still only 250 available yes. It is a trade off for reliability.
