Is Rooney worth £70million?

Yes.

If Kaka is worth £60 Mill and Ronaldo is worth £80, then I wouldn't be surprised to see Rooney sell for £70 mill. He's and excellent player, not to mention one of the most well known football players in the world, so someone like Real Madrid would be able to make a fair amount of cash in marketing.

In reality of course it's a ridiculous price and probably not worth it, but that's how the market is and will remain until football collapses in on itself.

Yeah, but Rooney is ridiculously ugly... I can see Ronaldo and Kaka being far more marketable than Shrek with a worse accent, TBH.

Yeah I agree, all around football stadiums all I ever hear is the men commenting on the players' looks and physiques, that's what matters! ;)

Hasn't stopped Nike, EA Sports and any tv channel that can get the rights to his image posting it in adverts and merchandise material.

fact of the matter with wayne rooney is, hes a hugely talented footballer who seems very much like your average joe english lad when it comes to looks and personality.

He wont move, whats the point? he is rich beyond his wildest dreams, (Its wayne, they are not that wild) and adored by his fans, unless he is pushed he wont be going anywhere.

No player is worth those kinds of figures.
The prices players are selling for plus the obscene wages they get is why so many clubs are having the financial problems they are.

Utter twaddle, Ronaldo's sale at £80million had no bearing on say, O'leary back in the day simply spending vastly to much on players, a club with a decent manager/board won't run at a defecit, its really that simple. The clubs in financial trouble have often overspent to try to achieve something, IE an owner thinks they can get promoted, spends a little exrta on players/wages to do it, fails to reach the target and the improved income they banked on from the promotion never appeared, which made their current spending and wages unsustainable.

I don't think almost anyone things Rooney is your average joe, and I don't think the fact that his name has some value which means it gets smacked on to games and other things, means he's got the same appeal as a kaka or Ronaldo. Kaka and Ronaldo are followed worldwide by millions of fans, Rooney isn't in their league in terms of global value, he's not worth anything close to Ronaldo's value. Not least because he's simply no where near as good as Ronaldo as a footballer.

As has always been the case, a skilled technical player who dazzels with his silky skills in going around players and scoring great free kicks have ALWAYS been prefered over a big lump of lard that powers his way through most situations, Ronaldo had a bit of both going for him(the fat Ronaldo obviously).

Rooney doesn't have that appeal, plus he's honestly, ugly, balding, and a foul mouthed northener which doesn't exactly appeal to a huge amount of fans/kids in terms of hero worship. Most kids, women and football fans worldwide would by a Ronaldo or Kaka shirt give the choice over a Rooney shirt, and thats where value comes in.

Ronaldo was worth 80mil, had he not missed just over a month of football Real would probably be ahead of Barca in the league right now, thats the majority of his value right there. if he was the difference between winning say the CL twice in the next 5 years, instead of not at all, thats 50million in winnings he'd bring in.

he might not apeal to the ladies like beckham, but he has resonance with the scrotes on the street...

they tend to buy a lot of rooney tat.

Not really, scrotes in the UK would sooner by a knock off from ebay on the cheap. Ronaldo's value isn't that he can sell shirts to fans in Madrid, nor Spain as a whole, which would happen anyway because of the Real fans in Spain, its his ability to sell shirts to fans in Asia, Africa, the America's and elsewhere, he has WORLDWIDE appeal not just to the locals, he's see as one of, if not the most skillful player in the world and that image sells. When people in Japan are buying Ronaldo shirts because they are his fans, he'll also bring in a lot of people who will become Real Madrid fans.

Rooney does NOT come close to having that same appeal. Even when it comes to something like a fifa box with Kaka, Ronaldo, Messi and Rooney's face on it, that doesn't mean they are all getting a flat equal fee for it, they are probably paying Ronaldo, kaka and Messi a huge amount more than Rooney for the same thing, because they have more appeal and are valued higher.

IN the scenario that you're a little kid watching Prem league and La Liga football on tv every week, do you become a fan of the kind of slightly fat, balding, foul mouthed not always very good, not hugely skillful powerhouse that is Rooney, or Ronaldo, scoring 3 times as many goals, tricks constantly throughout the game, not balding, not fat, a whingy little git, but a highly talented one, or Kaka or Messi. Rooney is a massive loser in that fight for global fans.

UTD would be stupid to sell him, not to mention Rooney wouldn't go, at least not unless Utd had several very uncompetitive years behind them. Rooney's from England, his dream was to play in the league he grew up watching for the team he loves where he gets a huge wage.

Beckham was rather forced out of Utd, and so went to the best place he could go, Rooney wouldn't go unless forced out or Utd weren't in the hunt anymore. But Utd couldn't get more than maybe 40mil for him IF real can get big funding again which they probably can't and Utd would be stupid to lose him for that little.

I think some people are underestimating Rooney's appeal.
From what I've seen while on Holiday in Malaysia and heard about other places, Man United is by far the most supported team in asia, and the English league is the most watched. Spanish and Itatlian teams haven't done as well at tapping into these markets because of the time their games are played, and there's a fascination with English culture among some asians. A club like Real Madrid might see a purchase like Rooney as a way to start tapping into that market.

While I was on Holiday in Borneo we travelled to a very small village in the Highlands called Bario. It's incredibaly remote, surrounded by rain forest and there are no roads heading to it The only way anything (food, building materials, Jeeps, people etc) can get in or out is by a 45 minute flight in the smallest plane I've ever been. we had two guides who took us on a trek through the jungle, and guess what football shirts they were wearing in probably the remotest place I've ever been? yup, Man Utd, they weren't too pleased with the Newcastle United shirt we offered them as a gift/ an attempt to convert them, lol.

Fat Ronaldo and Ronaldinho somehow managed to be ridiculously marketable, despite both being blessed with a sizeable ugly stick beating.

To Man Utd he is priceless.

It's like Ryan Giggs, he got offered the world at one point to move to Inter, big transfer fee, big wages, sexy villa, the sun on his back. He was never going anywhere.

The fact of the matter is, would Rooney be half as committed to anyone else.

Would he leave.

Would we sell him.

Those three things are what most clubs would worry about.

He was relatively well paid at Everton, and absolutely adored by all the fans who saw him as one of their own. Didn't stop him moving on to Man Utd.
