Is the 10700k actually good value now? VS Ryzen 5000

You're making the itch worse ! :D

And from what I understand the 10850k is essentially a 10900k? They look to perform the same.

The only other thing that bothers me about 10th Gen is lack of PCIE4. Not sure how relevant that will be at least for the next few years.
for a gaming PC gen 4.0 won't make any difference vs gen 3.0 in terms of the GPU or game load times.

Considering it took 8 years for a single GPU to max out gen 2.0 after 3.0 was available I think gen 3.0 will be good for another 5 years atleast.

Some Z490 will actually support gen 4.0 with a rocket lake CPU when they release next year.

I fail to see the logic here. The 10700k becomes good value just because AMD releases something more expensive?
Value is relative.
The 5000 series on release will be worse value than the 3000 series; due partially to there being no lower end SKUs.
So the Intel chips will also be better value versus the 5000 series versus how they compare to the 3000 series.
Their value compared to the 3000 series hasn't changed of course which might confuse some.
So their value has both stayed the same and changed at the same time; it's all relative.

This is only true of absolute performance per dollar and doesn't include the more subjective value assigned to the 'best chips on the block' which normally go for a premium price.
So from that perspective the value of the 5000 series is increased.
It's up to an individual to assign a value to premium chips and there's no right or wrong answer to that as it's subjective.
But some will argue as if their subjective opinion is an objective fact as if their life depended on it.

I am in the same boat - if you can, you might as well just wait to see what AMD have to offer at this stage. The intel parts wont go out of stock after 5000 release and they might even get a bit cheaper.

Plus looking at the Cyberpunk 2077 requirements - recommended is an i7 4790k so its likely that an 8 core processor will not make much difference anyway.

Minimum requirements for 1080p 30fps probably :)
And its still coming out on current gen consoles.. So not exactly optymized for next gen

Yes, I think I'm going to do exactly that. It will be interesting to see the 5000 benchmarks. Maybe even the 10th Gen will see a price drop?

Cyberpunk I guess isn't the only driver for the upgrade, but it would be nice to have it in time.

This is what im looking at for my new upgrade :)

Ryzen 7 5800x, Aorus B550 Elite and Wraith Spire RGB cooler comes to around £577

or

Core i7 10700k, Aorus b460 Pro AC and a half Decent Air Cooler works out around £540

I Want the Aorus board as been using one for 3 years and had no trouble plus need 2 m.2 slots for my Dual 960 Evo's

Lets just wait for benchmarks but less than 40 quid of a difference for hopefully 5-10% more performance and PCI-E 4.0 for future upgrades.

You won't be able to overclock the cpu or memory with the Aorus b460 Pro AC, you would have to get a z490 motherboard.

I think that's sound. A year from now you won't care about £40 but you'll feel good to be on a modern platform.

40 quid for the far better platform and architecture.
Then there is power usage and intels still rather dubious security crap.

If the 10700k was half the price i still wouldnt buy it and i am coming from a 5820k at 4.5g - its prob gunna be the 12 core for me.

Aye, probably some tenners cheaper in energy use over the life time if you're using it a lot.

Exactly same boat.

I've bought upgrades for psu, SSD and a new case on prime day but still holding out for m/b and CPU purchase and will likely hold off post the amd release date.

5800 is the target and yeah, it may not be great value over the 10900 atm (especially with 5000 series not going mad on core count like they might have done) but that gen gap and pci4 is definitely worth the extra £100 or so over the life of the pc I reckon.

Good luck with the release. Fingers crossed it's well stocked everywhere as I'll also be grabbing cyberpunk soon and my CPU is a great but old 4970k which is starting to struggle with the 1440p gaming.

I have the itch as well. Hold on brother!

Ive got an Xbox X setup on a 2560x1440 FreeSync screen.
I didn't realize that it actually supports this resolution... is performance better that 4k in games?

c'mon... 10700k for half the price is a beast of a cpu

If it was half the price I'd already have one ! It would be an insane deal.

Good luck to you also!

Still slightly dubious as the AMD presentation slide for the 5800x VS the 10700k has a strange chart. It measures the 1080p performance per dollar as a tie. Rather than an fps. Still no way to know until Nov 5th......

I think I’d still rather be on AM4 TBH.

@jigger how u manage to get such good memory speed on first gen mine wont go past 3000mhz CL14?

Literally just talking about that in anotther post.

First thing to do is check the motherboard supported memory list and BIOS version. But the simple answer is 8 pack B-die memory and ASRock motherboard.

@jigger yea i updated my Bios and even increased Voltage to 1.4v but it still fails Memtest86 at 3200mhz im hoping i can use my ram at 3400mhz CL14 on a B550 with a 5800X as the IMC should be a lot better.
